Our year round pest in the south of the US is pigs. We hunt them like yall hunt monkey. I am glad you make sure to make it quick and clean. No since making varmint suffer just because they are pests. I am wondering what yall do with the meat. We eat the pigs.

A lot of the anti-hunter crowd don’t realize that hunters and fishermen/women are some of the biggest advocates for nature conservation out there. The vapor trail at about 4 minutes. If the temperature is near the dewpoint, the air is staturated with water, and vapor trails can form. The shock wave of a rapidly moving solid object forms an area of reduced pressure, which reduces the amount of water vaper the air can hold below the humidty level. The excess water vapor then condenses. This is fairly common with Navy aircraft flying low over the ocean where the relative humidity is high. A vappor cone forms when they reach transonic speeds. It’s a vapor trail caused from the local shock waves formed over the curved part of the slug. The slug’s speed is transonic indeed but the local air flow over it is supersonic and it forms bowed shock waves. :-) I used to calculate and simulate these stuff ( CFD) at the uni for engineering fun.

moojidy There is indeed some wobbling motion as well. But again the only reason we got to see the vapor trails is due to the bowed shock waves and existing moisture in the atmosphere. This shot most probably was taken early in the morning that moisture (air condensation )was high. That’s why later on the day when the sun got higher and air condensation reduced, Matt didn’t witness any more vapor trails. (Even when he was shooting with the rimfire that creates much stronger shock waves due to its much higher traveling speed than any slug ).

I believe in the right atmospheric conditions combined with the slug achieving supersonic at only 768 miles per hour it would certainly be possible to leave a vapor trail when a projectile is traveling 100 ft. and more per second... Keep chalking them up...!

Best content on KZbin hands-down. I love all your videos and particularly when you go after the vervets and for baboons. It never gets repetitive! As soon as I hit the lottery or retire I would love to volunteer to come assist. I’ve been thinking about investing in a high end spotter scope and I was thinking if you had someone spotting for you with a decent scope with a GoPro attachment you’d have an excellent chance of capturing all your shots with no muzzle rise or recoil jostling the camera, and also a second angle. As much as I would love to shoot some of those monkeys I would be content just being in that beautiful country hanging with great people watching you guys do what you do. 4:20 - my best guess if its CO2 then its just liquid/solid CO2 trailing the bullet and boiling mid-air (in paintball, this was combated with 'expansion chambers' after the pressure regulator). If its compressed air, you might have got some moisture in your gun's air system. If you refill from a compressor then you might want to consider an inline dryer on the compressor lines.

I do understand why you are killing those monkeys. I to was a Hunter. As a kid I use to shot Pidgens in Iowa. It was in the 70's and no one cared. Later in life I had a child, one day I was talking to her and the subject got on to birds, and I was told here about Pidgens. She had no idea what a Pidgens was. She has never seen one, she as Never heard of a Pidgens. The next day I went out side looking for see a Pidgen, none. Well maybe next day, wait next month, it took one Year to see one Pidgen. Like I said I do understand why you are kill those monkeys, but now I know why there is no Pidgens around. I understand why a living thing just wants to eat and be left alone. I understand now inside my house is my world. Outside is there world there property. Yes, it up to you how many you shoot. But one day you might look back and say to yourself many be I should have let more of them live there life, maybe I should have just took more pictures. Could you put up a few trail cameras and put the video up on KZbin?

What I'm thinking for the vapour, is that with an Aircraft landing, you'll see vapour forming over the wings as well, this is due to the Angle of attack that the aircraft is approaching at. The airflow over the wing drops in pressure, causing a drop in temperature. If this drop matches local atmospheric conditions for the dew point, the air would condense, causing the vapour. What I'm thinking is that the pellet is doing the same, as it pushes the air out of the way, it causes a drop in pressure, drop in temperature, and then on this specific day, it matched the dew point of the air, causing the vapour.

There is 2 much humidity in your tank. even with a air dryer a little bit will make it into your tank. After a while it just adds up. It's a good idea to completely purge your tank every few months. Keeps them dry. Hope this helps

Mr. Matt, I was shooting some groundhogs with my FX Crown using 23 grains NSA's @ 934 fps and had the same thing happen while using silicone oil on my ammo. I believe that extra oil in the cavity of the slug causes that. Great shooting as usual and keep on "slugin " my friend@
