@@davulcu64st since these are triads you are going to be using ONLY 3 notes, so that triad is like just a fragment or piece of the bigger b chord shape, a reason you do that is because triads just have a different kind of sound then the bigger and fatter chords, they can also be used for other things like soloing and stuff later on when you get into targeting the chord tones when soloing

I'm from down south. I grew up in the Mississippi Delta. I'm so much enjoying playing and learning thanks to you. Thanks to people like you, Marty, I'm inspired. My life long I've wanted to be involved with music. Of all the art forms, music is by far the one that I take most to like a beaver in water. Growing up music was as much a part of my life as was breathing. I can't imagine being who am without music, or how I would have survived, against the greatest of odds, if it wasn't for music. The many sounds are so familiar, and so interrelated, the gospel, blues, jazz, country, rock and roll, surrounding me, beginning as young child and growing up. Looking forward to doing covers of music seemingly forgotten or put aside for some reason or another which was familiar to me growing up. Much of it, I never hear anywhere. I appreciate the contribution that you're making by way of making your work and knowledge accessible to the many. Keep up the good work. Someday I hope to share with you some of what I accomplish. In case no one has mentioned this in the comments, but his II - V progression in D Dorian is what Pink Floyd used on “Any colour you like”. This chord progression can be really groovy and can be used for “noodling” practice or just “spacing out” haha.

I've been playing guitar for 20 years and struggled to solo and understanding the fret board. I practiced the crap out of the minor pentatonic scale or would walk up and down scales and it always sounded pretty elementary. Really meaty lesson - thanks Marty! You start with " D Dorian" is C major moved up to the 2nd = D minor" and go from there. Very useful to know, since all the notes and chords are the same, and you do a great job connecting to the familiar pentatonic and actually getting us *using it.*. Just wanted to say that I found it helpful to also connect Dorian to "same as the minor scale but with a major 6th," i.e., think of it terms of intervals. In some contexts that gives me other familiar, practical references. May be helpful for some people. (Generally, if you know your major , minor, and pentatonic scales, all the modes are single-note or single-interval deviations from these.)

And that trick of taking the first two notes (B and E strings) from each chord of the key and playing them up and down the neck was really an eye opener! Makes perfect sense so it stuck with me. The connection between chords and scale is super useful, and simple examples of picking few notes here and there to build a nice progression is also a fantastic, though simple, way to build beautiful phrases. I've been playing for over forty years now, am a pretty good player, but I'm not much of a theory guy. I had learned the harmonic Chordal scales and Dorian 'position' on the fretboard over thirty years ago, always use it, but I had no idea that it comes down to this theoretically. After watching this a whole new world has opened up to my playing and approach to soloing. Forty years later I'm finally able to wrap my stubborn head around how this all revolves the root chord and how that major root scale can be put to use in any of the harmonic scale chords of that root (if that makes any sense). Omg!. Thank you!

Love how you break down a simi advanced concept. This simplifies complex sounds we've all heard but can't find. Just to be clear... Marty is simply moving up one chord at a time to play in the next mode. This is not changing keys...he's still using the same chords. If he moves up one chord and changes keys the majors and minors even the 7th diminished would chance orders. He's using the key chords the same. That's the unique sound of each mode. When he plays the scales from a chord he's playing not the key...it works but gives different feels. Very cool Marty. Thanks

I like THIS kind of method of combining theory of different stuff, many lessons dont do this but then we cant put them togueter by are selves because we are begginners with theory so then there are to many different lessons and it gets wayyyy overwelming. so keep on combinning everything because eventualy we will get it faster this way. people want to make hundreds of videos to make more money with views or they think people need to seperate things to understand but that not true. it just seems more complicated. hope you understand this lol and keep making great lesson that wont be waisted time us and for yourself.
