@mochouinard
@mochouinard Ай бұрын
Now you need to start doing check about how well they are sealed. Maybe use some kind of vacuum pump instead of dumping them into water ;) One thing that would be great, is a battery that you could just put along side a lead battery. What I mean by that, is for example, my friend have a sailboat. Her budget is super limited, and her battery will need to be replaced. But she do have a Diesel Engine that the battery need to be able to start. Her system allow 2 battery, and she have a battery selector that allow to select individual battery, or both batteries. I would love to help her out and get her a LifePo4 battery, but I see multiple problem... First the battery selector, can cause issues, as one battery might be low, while the other one full, so switching to Both battery option, then you have the 2 battery having rush current into them... And with the battery you just shown, if there is no protection at all, it would rush at what... 600amp between the batteries ? This doesn't seem to be a problem with her Lead battery. And can I start safely a Diesel engine from these batteries ?... As for me, I do have a Ecoflow Delta 2, and I do have 48volt battery system. It would be great to have a battery like this to supplement my Delta 2 on the cheap, but the max at 12volt would be 166watt I can input into my Delta 2 from the DC IN port at 13volt. So I'm not sure how useful it would be (and maybe that 166watt have a good % lost in conversion as well...). I could use 2 of these batteries in series and get 2kWh... It just suck that there is empty space inside.

Will, I have to raise the Red Flag here. They are obviously not using High C-Rate LFP cells but just regular Prismatics. Nothing wrong with that, except you exceed the specified C-Rates such as 2C and even 3C discharging. Burst Discharges within spec are OK but not this. It may be prudent to check out the cells specifically, locate that companies spec sheet and take that into consideration. In my opinion, allowing such heavy discharges will have consequences and potentially most unpleasant ones.

Im so happy I don't have to have a thousand pounds of lead in my van for the same performance. Over current protection seems like an important safety feature. Why is Will so casual about it missing? A smart person can limit how much power they draw........use enough batteries for your inverter and it should trip the low voltage protection from draining the battery and not have a problem. The limitations for LFP are being overcome 👉 low temp, 1C charge rates and discharge rates and capacity. This battery "does not have over-current protection" which is a red flag, but setting low voltage cutout is a workaround. Repeated high discharge will have an impact on reliability, but with perhaps a BMS software change, this issue is easily mitigated. Another simple solution is to buy 2 or 4 and run them on a 24 or 48V system, which then reduces peak current output loading. Great review Will, I hope you can do a deeper dive on BMS programming.

If this is true, then these are not good at all for connecting in series. Disconnecting each battery from a series string for each charge makes this battery only good as a single battery.

Second one which is my main dwelling has 4 Relion 300ah in series to give me a 48v system. I pain $3000 each for those batteries 6 years ago. Still going strong, but $12000 for 4 batteries.😞 My third is an rv with Li Time i bought at you recommendation. Great battery and good customer service . So good to see them go down in price! Very gappy to find your channel a couple years ago. Thank you SO much for your channel!

I have been using solar systems for about ten years. Components have been very reliable. I can't say the same about my deep cycle lead acid batteries. I even tried 6 volt golf cart batteries. They were no better. And, yes, I never discharged my batteries below 50 percent. I eventually went to sealed and even AGM batteries. I got tired of having to add water. I have two different systems in the house. I was seriously considering doing away with one of the systems when the two 200AH batteries died. After a lot of thought I decided to try a lithium battery. I had to buy a charger suitable for lithium batteries. I bought one 200AH lithium batteries and was pleased to see that it easily replaced the two lead acid batteries, I now will NEVER buy another lead acid battery. It is amazing and has made my solar system totally trouble free and the life of this battery should be much longer.

I am building an off grid property just 1 hour outside of Las Vegas on the north end of the town of Pahrump. I am using Lead Acid for my battery bank currently. In the future I do want to add a lithium bank as cost was the factor. But with declining prices we can start entertaining buying 4 of these at a time. Currently I have been adding 4 NAPA HD Lead Acid batteries at a time for 48v on each series. Currently running 3 banks in parallel. Running AC unit, refrigerator and security equipment 24/7. Eventually this system will be expanded to also power our house and shop.

Why aren't they? Like with all the BMS protection why is an alternator an issue? I have a small one on my garden tractor that is used less than one time a week. I have a solar panel charging it all the time, and the starter/generator of the tractor hasn't had any negative effects over the past 2 years. I still don't understand why a car is alternator would be bad for it if the BMS could protect it from overcharging.

Your reviews are good and revealing. Thank you! Visually notable, but not mentioned is when you pulled out the guts from the case, a lot of padding is visible (black foam spacers), which serve a role to protect the working components from shock, drop deformation or shallow penetration damage. Some off-shore vendors to North America are now certifying their Lithium battery product to UL-1973 (Safety standard for Energy Storage Systems) and UN 38.3 (environmental, electrical, and mechanical safety requirements) for transportation purposes. Fire Departments are finding home assembled systems from off-prime/quality sources causing fires and are now questioning the general availability of volatile battery systems that don't have any proof of safety and quality conformance. While a certification is not an expectation through your reviews, being aware and referencing what you see with what "could" (or wouldn't) pass under the two mentioned standards would be a value adder! Even if a manufacturer has no intention of submitting for certification, they can know, understand and inherently attempt to build to the standard.

These batteries all look the same anymore really. The cycle numbers are pretty pointless. They are all over the place even within the same companies, exactly as you pointed out. Additionally, pretty much nobody gives the conditions for which those ratings apply - such as 5000 cycles at a 1C charge/discharge to 80% state of health. It's silly, they'll keep one-upping one another by using lower discharge rates to get higher numbers.

I agree lead is dead. I have been running lead for years and my last purchase was 16 -T105s at 24 volt. I was so tired of maintaining them I let them go dry before watering. I was just putting tap water in them. I got 5 years out of them. I was concerned I might have to buy one more set of lead and saw the Eco Worthy at Amazon for $2000 for 4 -12v 280 AH the size of an 8D. I had bought the 16 T105 for $2000 with no core charge. Now is the time to buy LiFePo4. It must be the reduction in EV sales and an overstock of batteries so the prices really came down. Battle Born charging $1000 for a 100AH is just too much. I have not cut open the case of my batteries and there is no blue tooth connection for monitoring. They say to check voltages every few months to make sure that each battery is fully charged. Thanks for your videos.

I appreciate your reviews and was waiting/hoping you would review this battery, thank you! My comments are related to their protection claims, I have always thought low temp had 2 separate settings, low temp charging (around 32 F or 0 C) and low temp discharge (around 0 F or -15 C) only a temp controlled test would be able to properly evaluate and while dry ice or compressed air does activate the probe, we do not know at what temp and their website only showed, what I consider low temp discharge of 0 F, so maybe this would get damaged by trying to charge below freezing? That, with what you found on over current worries me. I have bought many of the Redodo brands and they show both low temp charge and low temp discharge, although I have never properly tested them and their prices are comparable. Keep up the great work as you are the standard I look to for accuracy.

I'm going to continue to use Lead Acid for any large battery power requirements in my house (my 4 UPS units specifically) for one simple reason - Lead Acid batteries do not turn into huge fireballs when they fail. I do not want to burn my house down because a cell in one of these batteries causes the whole unit to turn into an inferno. You can call any cost/performance differential the 'peace of mind' premium. I just would not have Lithium power source larger than a laptop battery in my home.

@Tumbleweed5150
@Tumbleweed5150 Ай бұрын
The reason to change out a charger for LiFePO4 batteries is that the charger won't get the Voltage high enough. If you have a solar system installed with a LiFePO4 MPPT solar controller, and can get enough sun during the day, that would cover it. All of these kinds of batteries seem to have a passive balancing mode, but one needs to get the battery (bank) up to the highest recommended charging Voltage in order for that to work, which is why chargers for lead-acid don't work very well. If your battery charger is also a Converter, you may need to change it out.
