Thank you as always for great content. I almost bought that 300 Ah battery for a friend's fish pond solar powered pump. I might still get it as it still seems a good deal if not a great one and the build quality seems good as well (except that ridiculous "overcurrent" protection. If I do, rest assured that I will use a good T class fuse. Can I request a product review here? I recently discovered the Basen Greene DYI battery kit. It is 15 kWh for under $2k. I have seen some other of these large DYI kits reviewed but not this one and I like it because I can order the full kit including cells from them and the case has two massive positive and two negative terminals for easy paralleling.

Thanks for your review, Will! We appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We want to be transparent about the labeling of our 300Ah mini. We use EVE LF280K-280Ah grade A cells (rated capacity 3.2V 280Ah, tested capacity 3.2V 310Ah). While it performs at a higher capacity, the correct labeling should be 280Ah based on the cell rating. We apologize for any confusion. We're offering affected customers a $50/each refund and a 2-year warranty extension, or a full refund if they prefer to return the battery. We're also developing a new 300Ah model. As the over-current protection, we will fix it to 250A-300A in the future products. We value your feedback and are working on a new 300Ah model.

Long time watcher, first time poster. I got 2 of these for my RV as they do fit in the battery bay. I ordered them based on your review of the 100AH battery. One of them they sent was cracked and the top was separated. I contacted them via email with a couple of pictures of the damage and I got a reply the same day. They Offered 3 options, 1) replace it free of charge, 2) return and refund my money and send a free 50AH battery for my troubles, 3) I repair it with an additional 2 year warranty and they send a free 100AH battery. I chose to repair it and true to their word, I had a new battery at my door in less than a week. I am impressed with the customer support

I already bought two of these as a result of the WattCycle review you did not that long ago, recommending the batteries. A bit disappointed about the false labeling. Also surprised that the overcurrent protection is not lower to remove the need for a fuse on each battery. I will be putting two in parallel, with a 400A T-Class fuse from LittleFuse on the combined output. Luckily I also bought some 400A MEGA fuses with fuse holders from Victron and I will be placing one on each battery based on your findings. Main cable is 4/0 rated at 440A @ 105 deg C.
@MatthewByrne-h9x2 сағат бұрын
You should use mrbf fuses on the batteries. Some fuses fail shorted (rather than open) at super high currents that these batteries are capable of. I cant recall the rating name, but mega fuses are no good for that.
@curioussand133947 минут бұрын
@@MatthewByrne-h9x The MRBF is the better battery fuse choice compared to a MEGA as it has an AIC rating of about 10.000 Amps compared to around 2000 Amps for the MEGA. But given a single 300Ah LiFePO4 has a maximum discharge rate of about 900 Amps, the 2000 Amps provided by a MEGA fuse should still be ok.

Sounds like this problem is more prevalent than is being let on. I got one of these batteries a couple weeks ago, that had a chunk out of it, crack down the side, and the cap was coming off. They tried to blame it on shipping, but the box didn't have a scratch or crease on it. Packing was great. They just aren't inspecting them very well, and obviously need to beef up the build. They wanted to send be some glue to fix it myself. HAH! And they would send me a smaller battery for the trouble. I was going to buy a second battery, but with these issues and your recent review; I don't thing I want to deal with this apparent quality of battery. Also glad you did the test and showed the shutoff didn't work. That's all I would need is for it to catch fire in the RV.

Renogy apparently is feeling the pressure of these cheap and compact 300Ah Mini's, they just launched their version recently. They Advertise 300Ah, could you also review one of those to check the capacity and overcurrent protection? The price is close to the price of WattCycle.

Perfect timing for this video. I just bought a second pair of these, for a total of 4, 300AH WattCycle batteries, to make my 48V battery bank to run my EG4 3000 watt all-in-one inverter/charge controller. I just logged online to check Will's older DIY power station cart that he built with the EG4 3000 watt inverter, to see what other parts I need, and I found this video instead. If you could give me a quick list of additional parts I need and a diagram to show what to put where, I'd really appreciate it. I just got done charging my 4 batteries with a Victron 20 amp, 12 volt battery charger, to top them all off before connecting them in series for my 48 volt battery bank. One of my 4 batteries seemed to be low after the charging, so I put it on the Victron charger again, and it went from 13.35 up to 14.1 volts. The other three batteries all finished the first charge cycle at between 13.61 and 13.68 volts. It is a bit disappointing that these batteries aren't true 300AH batteries, but as you said, they are still a great value, and appear to be built well, so I'm not too upset about it.

A video on 48v server rack vs 12v x4 in series would be great with some of these 280ah batteries. It could illustrate pros and cons to sticking with nominal system voltage vs 12v in series, wiring costs, cell imbalance, and also if a chargeverter works any better charging these back up vs generator through AIO.
@my_channel_4414 сағат бұрын
It's not right to directly compare a drop-in Group size battery with a server rack battery. One gives comms, standard protocols, one does not.
@cryptojlg63013 сағат бұрын
@ For sure. I think it’s a topic worthy of a video explaining it to everyone, newcomers especially who are just typing in batteries on Amazon and thinking things will go super smoothly, especially with prices quite competitive. Like if there was a similarly sized 4S system to equal inverters and panels, what can buyers expect fully? And ways to combat any issues? Ex. How does each individual bms react to charging through an all in one on generator, at various loads? Does a 5 kw generator running near full load react about the same as a 15kw at 33%? Or does it throw the sine wave off, and how does bms of both kinds react to this? A bit on chargeverters in those situations with each configuration too. I feel like it could be of interest, there’s plenty that have been in a system down state after a week of no sun mid winter. In Canada. Or, whatever it’s called now. 😂

The next day they sent me a message saying they had discovered a manufacturing defect in all of these batteries and would have to cancel the order, yeah right. They said they would have some back in stock in a couple of months and I could get the discounted price then but didn't say how to do it. Basically, they made a mistake and lied about a manufacturing defect instead of just being honest. I'd rather pay a few bucks more for a more reputable company than wonder what kind of corners they cut.

In some high reliability applications, I prefer to use Marine Lead-Acid batteries. Yes, you get half capacity for the same size when compared to LiFePO4 batteries, but there is no quirky BMS boards in the middle, and the characteristic in high temperature environment is almost a legend. The carbon in the electrode plates has made sulfation of Pb/H2SO4 batteries (at low charge levels) a problem of the past...

Bought 8 for 4S2P. Thanks for testing the high current cut off. Wow. That would have been spectacular. 4 had lids partially or fully off. Support was fine. I bet they get some air time with FedEx. I doubt they are rated as IP6? anymore.

I was thinking of getting one, but now I will wait for the updated version to see if it is good.

Will, thank you for reviewing this battery! I have been waiting on someone to test it. You mentioned that it should have a fuse on each battery if you use these. I assume you would suggest a MRBF type fuse for that? Also what size would you suggest per battery? Say there were two batteries and used for a 3000w inverter. Thanks, keep up the great reviews!

4:50 I do use these batteries with inverters, occasionally for welding too, so they need to have a lot of surge capacity. The chinese manufacturer of my cells claims 1C constant flow and 2C surge - so, no, i would not want this kind of batteries fused at 250 amps.

Will as for as the overcurrent protection, it depends on the intended purpose of the battery. If the batteries are 3C rated, then 800 or so amps is perfectly fine. If you're using it for a solar application, then like you mentioned, the fuse is definitely a good idea. But, if the battery is used for a starting application in a vehicle, then the high amperage is needed to turn the starter. A 200 amp short term limit in many cases, is just simply not enough.

These aren't warranted for use as a starter battery for a combustion engine. Says so right in the paperwork that comes with them. I still think they are a good value for the money spent and don't regret my purchase of four of them, but they should be labeled and advertised properly as 280AH batteries.
@matthewperlman33565 сағат бұрын
@traveling.down.the.road56 Thanks for the update, I didn't realize that about the warranty. In that case, then Will was correct. As far as the 280-amp hours being labeled as 300, I absolutely agree that this is false advertising. It's issues like this that I actually have quite a pet peeve about regarding Chinese electronics, which are often misrated.

@ Yeah, I’m very cautious with buying any Chinese products and try to avoid it whenever possible.

Hey Will. When are you going to get a grid boss. Was going to get one to go with the 2 18kpvs. And 6 eg4 indoor wall mount batteries. Wondering if it would really simplify my instal. Thanks for all you do for us diy guys.

I bought two of these on a Black Friday sale at $499 each and after watching your video i feel like i got ripped off..........a competitor had a 280 for a hundred less.

I got 2 of the NewtiPower 300ah 'small sized' with the built-in voltmeter/capacity estimator for $460/ea off Amazon a month ago. They'll send you a free cheapo charger when you register each one. I wonder if they are packin' 280ah in them too...

Any downside to mini batteries? In general. Not just these but mini in general.
@williammeek-h2o15 сағат бұрын
No. there has been a general improvement in cell energy density and that is reflected in these new mini batteries. Otherwise, basically the same.

Great video, and very timely as I just bought two of those for my boat. Seems a good deal despite the shortcomings you revealed. Follow up question: You recommend adding a fuse on each battery. I'm planning a set up where I lead both batteries to common poles within 7" and then install a 225 Amp Class T fuse for the combined discharge. Do you still think that each battery should get a fuse? ABYC seems on the fence on this, and some people seem to think that separate fuses may cause new problems. Would greatly appreciate your thoughts.
