In the heart of South Hams, we’re crafting and installing a lead-lined gutter from start to finish. Starting with fabrication in the workshop, each piece is prepped and fitted onsite, coming together like a lead jigsaw. This project blends ASMR vibes, quality craftsmanship, and a stunning countryside setting, showing the process in detail-from first cuts to final installation.
Expansion Joints Explanation:
Due to the design of this gutter as a single, long run (instead of shorter, stepped sections), we’re using expansion joints. These joints allow for essential movement and flexibility in the lead, preventing cracking or splitting as it expands and contracts with temperature changes. This setup keeps the gutter strong and durable, even in rural weather conditions.

This is a work of art. I have had the pleasure of working with similar skilled artist, but your level of detail and attention to finish is first class.

That’s super interesting to hear. As it’s banned in most states.

I understand at times these drainage "traps" are unavoidable. However, often it seems to be a cop out with poor engineering. I know it means work for you and good on you for that. It also places a LOT on your ability to keep water/moisture intrusion out of the building. The integrity of the structure comes down to you. And certainly, with your skills, you have risen to the task. Without your skills, the design would be a failure and not worth the paper it was printed on. That makes this type of work all the more valuable. VERY WELL DONE. KUDOS.

Expansion joint, I thought so. I would love to see a close up, cross section of that expansion material. Maybe I'll see it in a future video. Another question came to mind. When you were installing that inside corner, I thought, "Are you responsible for slope as well?" Obviously a roof has a pitch, but sometimes, "left to right" could come into play. Do you need to shim, to creat a complex slope?

No I just fit the lead unless specified. I will ask the builder/carpenter to put a 1:80 fall in.

I also want to say, here in Canada, the most ubiquitous material for flashing, is Aluminum. It's a sad material 😢/😂

Yeah definitely. But it’s all external so with a bit of maintenance shouldn’t be too bad.
