Real quick, incase anyones wondering, at 12:36 when Pairs asked “why can’t I shoot this thing” in regards to firing his agm-88 at the mad 4, the reasons simple! If you listen carefully you may notice an important sound missing, there’s no RWR alerts. They weren’t actually being nailed by the SAM battery, but instead were receiving its approximate position over data link from another aircraft. The anti radiation missiles in vtol will not track over just data link, you do need to be receiving nails. Hope this helps -a big time vtol nerd

Ive been struggling bigtime with this issue in the 24G. I think it stems from the fact that the 45 didnt have arad missiles before the new 88S missile. Using TSD instead of the ARAD screen for arams is new to me. Thank you for clearing this up

@@ravenheartwraith that’s just indicating that the jammer is active, I think, rewatching on my phone so I’m not sure, that the dial right below the mrad indicator is set to WPN, so he should have been able to fire, it was just saying the back seater was actively using the jamming pods, but that won’t prevent the pilot with weapon authority from firing, only obtaining radar locks. That mrad light doesn’t indicate that you’re being jammed, but rather that you are jamming something I believe.

VR not necessarily needed luckily. There's a flat screen mod you can find for it. Never tried it personally, but I've heard it works well!

You could get Flatscreen mod & hotas mod. Your friends only need the modmanager installed if they want to play on VR.

@@zoeys_512 well it works. You can bind stuff to HOTAS with triquetrainput, and the flatscreen mod allows you to use trackIR. It's cool and all, but it's quite finecky to bind all controls to a HOTAS with the mod. You can't bind everything to HOTAS like in DCS, it's just certain things you can bind, eg. you can't bind hook or bar iirc. It just takes a while to set up, and whenever I relaunched the game after setting it up, it would reset which devices it was bound to, so I had to scroll through like 10 devices to find the right one (because my HOTAS splits into virtual devices with max. 32 buttons/actions on each of them). Of course, it works, and if you have a HOTAS + trackIR (or alternative), but don't have a vr headset, it's worth a shot. However if you don't have HOTAS + trackIR it's really not fun. You can bind stuff to your keyboard yes, and maybe an xbox controller, but it's just not the same. Additionally whatever method of input you use, your pilot's arms are gonna be stuck off to the right etc and it just isn't the same as flying in VR. I also wish it was in a more playable state with HOTAS + trackIR like DCS, but even with mods, VTOL VR is built for VR, and it will always work best in VR, until someone makes a huge mod to make it closer to DCS. @Blade4952 I recommend to buy a VR headset if you want to play VTOL VR, trust me it's worth it. Whenever I use my VR headset, I'm only playing VTOL VR, rarely anything else, because VTOL VR is just better than the other 3 VR games I do have. It's such an experience.

Very nice video, and awesome to see that you guys are doing the Mil-sim approach in VTOL-VR! Some tidbits from a DCS guy flying with a USN CVW: Planning wise, the strike package (Alpha Strike) could have been set-up to form a more coordinated and “safe” approach for your mission. What is usually done, is setting up an initial tanker plan for all package elements, then common rendezvous point outside the threat area (Push point). A strike package usually contains several elements: Sweep, which is the first guys going in who takes care of the air picture. SEAD, who are 2nd in just after the Sweep to suppress/destroy the SAM threats, and lastly the Strikers, who takes care of the ground targets. Just for reference, this is what a CVW-17 strike package could look like. We do all the planning ahead mission in a google presentation, but it’s off course personal preference that goes. Flight roster & armament: Victory 1 (VY1), Strike section of two F-14 tomcats, armed with 4x 1,000lbs JDAMS each. Joker 2 (JR2), SEAD section of 2x F/A-18 Hornets, armed with AGM-88 HARMs. Blaster 3 (BR3), Sweep section of 2x F/A-18s, armed with AIM-120s. Hard-deck FL220 (So if there are any pesky bastards with MANPADs, they can’t reach up ;) ) Essentially, after aerial refuelling we rejoin at the Push point, conduct a strike package check-in, then at the pre-briefed time slots, we push at the common pushpoint with the same ground speed, which sets up the ingress formation. Usually we have Sweep at 60nm ahead of Strike, and SEAD 20nm ahead of Strike. The mission commander is usually with the strike flight. If there is any enemy air threat doing CAP, or a quick response force on the airfield, the Sweep takes care of it outside the SAM WEZ, allowing the SEAD to destroy the SAMs without disturbance. Usually all fighters have some kind of Self Escort capability, so if there are any leakers, SEAD or STRIKE can take care of themselves. With the 40nm separation between SEAD and strike, it gives enough time for the SEAD to do their job, so once SAMs are down Strike goes to Initial Point, ingress for attack, drops their bombs, then everyone egress with SWEEP still loitering around for package escort. Once everyone out, we do a quick chicken count to see if everyone is still airborne and without damage, then go home to the boat for a nice and comfy carrier landing. (Extra fun with doing all above mentioned at night, then do CASE 3 landing after 2 hour mission 😂) Pretty long rant, but this is pretty much how a USN-NATO strike package would be conducted. Can be simplified as much as needed for the mission requirements, and available pilots. If you got any questions, send a DM out to “Stridspiloten” on Discord.

I know your comment was well intentioned. Thanks for that. I'm JPME II qualified with over a decade in service and have been in, planned, and led strike cells, JAGICs, JROC drills and the like. I'm no pilot, but I've designed strikes and kindly asked pilots to drop bombs on bad people in support of my mission and been the ground force commander on joint operations where I've planned alongside the air mission commander. I generally understand the anatomy of a strike package. We were just playing a video game in a semi-authentic and teamwork oriented fashion. It's vtol, not DCS, and not real world. I left DCS because it felt like a job and I couldn't post anything without getting comments like this lol.

It really is the best flight sim in regards to being accessible and fun. DCS is great for real aircraft nerds like myself, but VTOL really just does it perfect, it makes it easy to learn, fun to employ, and satisfying to win. Only real barrier to entry is needing a vr set and being willing to spend an hour learning the basics.

I just discovered this game and i'm in love with these kind of videos! I'm trying to learn more about flying and i have one question: Why are you making slow turns?? I've trying the F/A-26B and i noticed that the G forces do not damage your plane if you stay below 10-12G, allowing me to turn faster, but you seem to do that really slow. Is it a roleplay thing or it has some explanation?? I'm so into the game right now and anything new to learn is so much more than welcome!

If you're talking about that strike mission with (IIRC) 6 randomly placed ground targets: Load up on jdams (all internal). Adjust your fuel just enough for you to vtol. Never turn on your fire control radar. Only use your EOTS/TSD for acquiring targets and guiding your jdams. Last but not least, try not to get a heart attack every time your RWR pings you something. On a 5th gen stealth aircraft, RWR pings don't immediately imply that you're getting locked. It's just basically telling you that it detected something using their radar. F45's stealth capabilities are very reliable until you are within 6NM of a hostile where the AI is basically targetting you 'visually'. Once you get the basics down, you are pretty much playing Metal Gear Solid with fighter jets.

@@RhotoActualVTOL VR has no HOTAS support, the dev intended it only for VR controls. Some people don’t agree with that decision which is understandable but the VR controls are very intuitive. Only exception is rudders can be used, but most people don’t.

Very very small corrections and practice. It also helps to figure out some fixed visual references instead of just watching the lights.

It's tough. I find it easier in DCS with a physical flight stick actually. I don't use autopilot. I match speed half mile behind and ease in at 10kts closure. Tiny inputs and tiny adjustments to throttle and stick. The throttle takes a second or two to respond so you have to be a bit anticipatory in the inputs. I'm feathering the throttle constantly during the hook up.

I have some! I use them in DCS but can't bring myself away from the VTOL controls since they're just easy and fun. Definitely helpful with case I and II hornet recoveries in DCS though
