I like the idea but I don't see plastic wrap holding up to hot chips. I'm guessing they would melt threw?

Great idea Steve, how long does it last before it needs replenishing?
@stevohdee81184 жыл бұрын
Well... Funny u should ask Charles, the sandwich wrap did become altered over time, it was peeling off & causing jams @ the chuck end so I've come up with another solution. I'm working on it @ the present, fingers crossed, regards, steve

Hi ya Steveodee. I have just done this mod to my Clarke cl300m, which is pretty much the same lathe as yours, but painted Yellow and the mod works quite well. How well it will work long term remains to be seen, but it is cheap and easy enough to replace the cling film. I did however make a special spacer so that I could retain the threading dial which was a lot of trail and error and faffing around to get it right, but it seems to work Ok. Thanks for the idea which I have nicked :) I have one of the blue lathes you mention as well which is a bit bigger, but I think I have to agree with you and I do think sub standard parts are used to put them together. Here in the UK it is called the cj18a from Amadeal www.amadeal.co.uk/ I think it is the real bull in the USA. But again if you are prepared to put in the time they can be good machines. Updated the motor on mine to a 3 phase VFD driven 750w motor which lowered the top speed but increased the torque significantly. Most of your other mods I had already come up with myself with some prompting from youtube members videos:) It never stops does it? the mods :) Thanks for the video.

Hey Stephen, thanks for your message. Yep the cling wrap needs to be changed eventually as it does become chewed up. I am working on a new system which I hope will be a more effective solution to the problem of the dreaded swarf. Best regards stevoh

@@stevohdee8118 I just found some 2" when flat and before heated heat shrink tube which seems to work, But Of course I can not say it will work long term. it crushes down slightly less then the cling film though.
@stevohdee81183 жыл бұрын
I recon heat shrink would be too stiff & probably crack easily. Are you using a spring underneath?
@stephentayler14143 жыл бұрын
@@stevohdee8118 I thought that as well , but I had some of the large heat shrink to hand so thought I would give it a try. I have put some heat on it so that it just forms around the spring. I don't think it would work if it was not shrunk. At the moment I have one spring in cling film and the other in heat shrink, so I have a direct comparison.I will let you know the verdict when I have some results.
