As the composer of 'It's A Long Way There', it's a great honour to hear this and realise the work that's gone into learning the licks. I will send a link of this video to our guitarist Ric Formosa. Little River Band's recording was a live performance in the studio. Regards Graeham Goble (LRB Founding Member)

Thank you very much Graeham for that! Talk about an honor! What an honor it is to have had you watch this and comment on it. It was always one of my favorite songs, along with many other LRB tunes. That's amazing to hear the studio version was a 'live' play through in the studio! Thank you SO much for your comments. Thanks for sending it on to Ric! Tom

And, what’s even greater, is that Ric Formosa had the flu that day when he played this live in one take, and couldn’t wait to get home, but the band would not let him go until after he was done! Ric himself recounted that story.... He played that song in one take while dreadfully sick! How amazing is the guy??

I first heard this in the UK in 1976 and it stopped me dead in my tracks. Pulled my vehicle over, switched the engine off and sat back and listened in amazement. (Then 'My Lady and Me' was played straight after; it was on Radio One, DJ was Dave Lee Travis) Been a fan of the ORIGINAL Little River Band ever since. Rick Formosa deserves a lot of credit for the tremendous input he put into the 'Band in those very early days.

How good was LRB ? Tight as fuck, great musicians and Glenn Shorrocks vocals, very very underestimated and undervalued. That guitar work by Ric formosa is in my top 10 up there with Stevie Ray Vaughan . You sir are also in that group, brilliant absolutely brilliant.👍
@workerouter3 жыл бұрын
Rick Formosa is one of the most under-rated guitarists of all time. This song just oozes at times and slashes at times, all the while accenting the flowing lyrics. This is a work of art, which has never been duplicated by any other LRB guitarist after Ric left the band.
@joebudgie29053 жыл бұрын
ur sooo right, no guitarists LRB had after ric could do it. but than again how many other guitarists can do it. LRB lost that extra spark after ric left.

That was the most amazing performance. This guy loves this song as much as i. I'm 63 years old and have seen the original LRB several times during the 70. Once at the Alladin Theater in Las Vegas. Anyway i am a pretty decent guitar player and have trying off and on my whole life to learn this song and have never been able to reproduce all the nuances and phrasing that this young guitarist just displayed. It is a technically perfect cover of this awesomely fantastic guitar solo that just wails through out the entire song . My all time favorite. Good Job.

Sensational rendition of an absolutely mesmerising piece of music. Grew up as a teenager in the mid to late 70's in Australia with LRB, and wouldnt have wanted it any other way. 55 years old now and still a go-to listen. Thanks to Glenn, Graeham, Beeb, Ric and all the boys for adding such quality to our young lives.

This solo was not recorded as an overdub but was played live by Ric Formosa as part of the backing track. He wanted to take another shot at it but the band convinced him he'd done a perfect job at the first attempt.

Wow, you are the only person I know to ever pull this song off like the record...congratulations on an enormous talent and undertaking to learn the guitar parts in this song! It was that guitar playing that made this composition of Goble stand out like it did! Awesome work my brother and great job! And to receive credit from Goble himself...what a compliment and he is going to send it to Ric who initially did that work...all I can say is wow!

What a trivia nugget Graeham shared that this long version was recorded straight up as a Live take in the studio .. I was playing guitar in a band when this album was released and had been listening to LRB material and never knew this was a live track .. in our early studio days we were limited in recording technology .. a full band live version track was just in its infancy .. we started with reel to reel .. lol

I can't tell you how much I love this. If somebody asked me to name my top ten songs of all time, this would be one of them. I used to be the projectionist at an old theater during college summers and I'd play it before and after the features. It just spoke to me, plus I saw LRB about 4 times during those years. I even had an 8-track of Diamantina Cocktail. :)

Very well done.. In the past I've tried to figure this monster out with very little success. It's one of my all time favorite songs/leads ever, but with the inspiration you showed me that it can "actually" be played and while it'll remain immortal simply because it is what it is.. it's not the mystical guitar part I just knew had to be handed down from the Gods as a gift to us mortals with only a chosen few given the talent to play it note for note, with all the dynamics in place (as you have here)I'm very happy to say that because of your sharing this, I'm about 95% into it and with just a few of the quicker runs left to master. I get a note or 2 closer every time I play it. I want to say thank you for taking the time to master this amazing piece of beauty and passing it along to us. I'd still be regarding this as one of those untouchable songs that I'd have to settle with just listening to and fantasizing about playing.. thanks again!

As a hunkered-down teenager, I definitely found the song to be a tonic for at least a little of the angst. I was fortunate enough to see LRB in concert. On the subject of contemporaries, I've long been fascinated by examining 'what was going on at the time' musically. Here are some of the artists that for me, share a connection (though I think some of them will make some wince): City Boy. Styx. Eagles. Supertramp. Gerry Rafferty. Dan Fogelberg. Dire Straits.
