I understand this was a devastating blow after so much invested care and attention. But your strength and resilience shines through.

I had a similar experience. Althoug the fungus was healthy in my case, the qeen suddenly died after about 1 week. I ordered a new colony afterwards and it looks much better with this new colony.

Im sorry your fungus died. From my experience, the fungus looked healthy when you received it. It looks like the setup you placed it in was too wet -- the fungus is very sensitive to too much moisture early in the colony's lifespan. You shouldn't be able to see any water drops on the sides of the glass/plastic and this is my guess why it died so quickly. Plaster also makes a much better substrate than sand. Hope you get a chance to try again some day!

That fungus was not healthy at all. It was way too dark to begin with. I think it didn’t have proper humidity for transit.

The fungus was not healthy, healthy fungus is white

The fungus was already dead/near death upon arrival. Also, plaster should never be used alone for hydration! A wiser thing for him to do would be putting a layer of plaster on top of the sand to prevent them digging and nesting into the sand (which has happened to me before), and just drilling a hole into the side and hydrating the sand for the water to then evaporate into the air and humidify the nest.
@mcguffles10 ай бұрын
@@AntsMichigan This is false information -- I have kept multiple Atta colonies on plaster alone, as well as Acromyrmex. You do need to hydrate the plaster however. This is how most people in the hobby keep the Attines, though both substrates can work in the right conditions

5:15 another guy used those 'palettes' that save moisture... *Seramis* ? Those are hard and wont shift this easily when the mushroom gets bigger. Overall they can save more water. Also the mushroom will tilt from time to time since the belly will rot and be taken away by ants while the top grows.......... *shrug* 7:10 like this water can seep out of the sand and flood the mushroom. With those pallets you can make one layer and it sits on top with the moisture mostly inside/at the bottom.... There are many methods, sure, but as far as i know is direct contact with water for those rather deadly AND you should have a way to bring in moisture without lifting the lid (keeping the wet air

You moved them too early. Also sand is not the best thing for them and it would rather be better to have plaster. Another waste of a expensive species
