Awesome macro videography! If you could get more magnification of the small white strands you would see tiny fluid filled sacs at the end - but definitely the food for brood and queen. Beautiful footage! Your next questions should be around “do workers get all their fluid/sugars/etc from leaves or the fungus” - whilst the common thinking is they get them from leaves it is controversial with scientific papers evidencing both external fluid foraging and zero external foraging (all worker food from the fungus). Have you ever captured videos of workers drinking sap (instead of cleaning leaves)? Also now they are larger a mealworm every now and then may surprise you about your vegan ants 😉 Keep up the very high quality content! Amazing work!

Thanks man! I fed them sugar for the first time last week before antcon. They actually didn’t really seem interested in it but it’s definitely something I want to try more in the future. Regarding the mealworms I feel like the colony is growing fast enough 😆😅

Leafcutter ants need a lot of space. Therefore I can't afford to keep them. But in future, when I'll get space - sure I'll keep them. Awesome ants.

The good thing is you can actually get smaller colonies that won’t grow insanely big but perhaps that’s also for the future 👀🤔

I really want to get leaf cutters but they are sooo expensive and i would want some species that dont grow that big and that fast . I would want some colony that is not that expensive but i live in europe so to get them IT is hard . Do you know some leaf cutter species that dont grow that big ,dont cost that much and can be send to Slovakia ?

WOW! I just got into antkeeping with my first Lasius Niger colony. This species is a dream for the future! Great quality video, beautiful macro shots. Thanks for making this! :) When would you say leafcutters are a species to get into? This seems a lot more advanced than my L.Niger! Would you recommend as a second species to go for harvesters or carpenters first?
@AntHolleufer
@AntHolleufer 2 жыл бұрын
Well unlike when I started ant keep and they where an expert species I don’t feel it’s the same anymore. They are expensive and if you fall it’s lots of money gone to nothing. I’d say wait a year to get the rookie mistakes we all make away and then you’d be ready. But it might be worth getting something like a camponotus nicobarensis first to try and play with heat as they need some quite specific temperatures😄

How do you raise Tropical Ants in Demark?
@morgan-cammacfarlane6208
@morgan-cammacfarlane6208 9 ай бұрын
I think you have to create a micro or mini climate (correct me if I'm wrong please) that suits the ants needs with the correct temperature and humidity and keep them on a stable level on a regular basis but as you see you has a temperature and humidity level on there and the leaf that the ants take in are creating there on humidity in a way as he has to take water out as it can cause a flood
