League of Legends/Riot Client Not Booting Fix for Mac [Works 2024]

TLDR; Search and delete Riot Client, Re-Download League of Legends installer, Let it install (it will only patch the Riot Client), Launch League & Voila! Works for Mac Intel, Mac Apple M1 & M2
This video shows how to fix the issue of League of Legends not opening on MacOS. The culprit of this problem seems to actually be the Riot Client, which keeps crashing. Unfortunately this is for Macs only, and I do not have a fix for Windows.
Tested on Big Sur, tested and works for other previous versions of MacOS as well; pseudo-tested on Monterey and works fine, may or may not work for future versions)
The full video shows an even shorter way to fix the issue than the TLDR in this description but it does not always work, which is why the TLDR is for the long way which almost always works.
If you've got other/better ways to fix this issue, drop it below in the comments and I'll pin them! And if you could send a message to Riot letting them know, that would alert Riot that multiple users are having this issue and it would get solved faster.

nice approach, it works fine for me. Before know this approach, I logged out and logged into my mac user. Sometimes it is needed to restart the macos. But now, I just need to move riot games to the trash and open league of legends app. Thanks for share this solution.

Im trying to find riot client after downloading it from the league of legends installer, and I cant find it anywhere, but its weid because I can see the icon on the top and setting saying "It can run on the background" I cant even find the application on my mac anywhere and on activity monitor it says "Not responding" How do I fix this?

hello, my client is working up until the page where it says play on a blue icon on the bottom left but when I click it it didn't actually get me in game but the same screen with the play icon pop back up. do you know how to fix this issue?

Hey! That sounds really weird, this one might be trickier: you may need to do a whole client repair! If that doesn't work, make sure your account is in good-standing by emailing Riot to see if there's some type of restriction on your account that is coupling with some bug to produce what you're experiencing. And finally, if all that is in place, you may need to do a hard delete of everything League of Legends related on your Mac. And I'm not talking just the application, but also the additional repositories and files League of Legends creates in other locations. Good luck!

Hey, I've got an issue when after champ select and load into the actual game, I am presented with a white screen that is unresponsive and can only be exited by an opt+command+esc force quit. No matter what I do (I've reinstalled the game multiple times and contacted riot support) I cannot get into a game and constantly greeted by the same white screen. I am running an m1 macbook pro from late 2020, is there any fix you have?

Hello, have you ever experienced normal client behaviour, but when you launch the game (even the loading screen where you see all the players) the game screen quaters - only one fourth of the screen is actual the game and all black arround, but clickable. Meaning your cursor can click on black screen arround the left quater where you see the game. I play on borderless mode and Im quiete used to do, so I dont want to change it into full screen mode. Playing on M1 macbook pro. Thanx in advance, I dont know what to do.

That's really weird, it seems like you're having software display issues. Have you got an external monitor? Try using that to see if there's something wrong with the res of the Macbook Pro. You may alternatively need to go to Settings > Display and change your display resolution and see how that goes. If it changes the size of the black portion of the screen, you may need to either play in fullscreen (I know i hate it too) or upscale the resolution of the borderless mode. And how does windowed mode fare, does it work alright?

Hey! If this is your first time installing League of Legends, there may be something preventing the Riot Client from booting up. Check your security settings on Mac and see if the Riot Client/League of Legends is an allowed application/has access to your disk! If you're still having issues, I recommend default resetting your permissions.

Have you checked your permissions? If you've got multiple users on the Mac, make sure you've got the highest permissions. Alternatively, it feels like it may not have been a clean delete. Try deleting and restarting to let the OS do its cache dump.

Hey! I'm sorry you're experiencing this, it sounds like there's a file access error, I believe it may have something to do with your permissions. Please make sure if you're the admin on the computer. You may need to give yourself admin access or alternatively, delete the Riot Client altogether and re-install it someplace you DO have access.

It sounds like you need to do a hard wipe, including searching for both "League of Legends" and "Riot" on your mac and deleting any files related to other of those programs

@@txdiibear4898 Although I agree League should be able to run just fine, more often than not, devs optimize for newer OS, which could mean anything from another program conflicting with updating properly, your client not having the correct permissions, cache files being corrupted, the Riot program itself being program, etc. If you've exhausted all of these issues, updating and/or completely wiping might be your last step. I'm wondering if a clean installation might help clear cache files that otherwise are infinitely stuck/lost in the system...

Hmm, unfortunately that problem looks like it's unrelated to the Riot Client, which was my main focus for this video. The game not "loading" but your internet, audio and video settings for other applications working fine seems to signal to me some sort of internet/DNS issue, could League of Legends be blocked potentially? Alternatively, does League have enough space & RAM to operate (as you know when the game is "loading" that's you downloading the characters/settings, have you got space for that?)?

Hello! It sounds like there's some residue files remaining which may be corrupt, causing the installer to not work. Please search your computer and thoroughly delete folders related to League of Legends and Riot. Please be careful when deleting sensitive folders as you don't want to cause more harm than good. @@hectorcantu928 Okay 2 solutions: If league has previously worked on this computer, that means there's still some files leftover SOMEWHERE. I couldn't say where, but you just need to keep digging. Other solution: if league has never worked on this computer, you may need to look at system requirements, disk space requirements. Or honestly, and this might be a drag, but you may need to fresh install MacOS.

Have you tried fully uninstalling and reinstalling? If that hasn't fixed it, there's clearly a process preventing LoL from opening, try your security settings or check to see if a League of Legends process is permanently open on Task Manager. Maybe a fresh reinstall of the OS should fix it. Or maybe, does your network have a block on LoL?

Oof, sorry to hear it. It seems like a network issue if your Riot Client isn't even parsing but if it's popping up. I would recommend checking your firewall and checking if you have an antivirus or one of those adwares running that prevent clients from connecting to external servers.
