Vanguard is also literally a root kit ::/// which is like a big no no for anyone who works in cyber security. You basically willingly give riot kernel (a privledge higher then admin) access to your computer which we can’t verify what it’s doing. It can see all key strokes, processes, inject code, litteraly anything you do or have in your pc. While I don’t think this is necessarily malicious code it is certainly dangerous and I’ve seen very little discorse on a very real and valid concern. Basically the only real way for riot to like prove its safety would be to drop its source code (they can’t do that for obvious reasons) but means that no one can actually verify its safety and what exactly vanguard does.

Vanguard is very controversial for many reasons. It has stupid amounts of access into your computer, and stops mac and linux users from playing, on top of the custom skin and tool issue. I'm not sure about how I feel about it personally. A little torn.

Enough that it can actually edit your startup settings and use folders like sys32. Linux does not allow that as those stuff should never be necessary for a normal program.

Honestly dual booting windows / linux is common place unless you're in a few niche scenarios anyway.. I'm for user freedom but it's highly inefficient for many reasons to develop for both Windows and linux at the same time.. So, from a developer standpoint, it makes sense to stick with what most of your audience has. So my only gripe with Vanguard is… it’s super invasive. You can turn it off but only comes back on after reboot. Just like with anti-virus software some things can (and will) be blocked (or false flagged) while it’s up even while you’re not playing league because it stays on in the background. I’m all for anti-cheat but the potential dangers vanguard can introduce is too high while riot just says “oh don’t worry, we won’t do anything nefarious with all this access”

@@LoafyGoblin I’m actually in cyber security 😊 so I know a lot about windows (and Linux 😃) An OS can’t really be “invasive” like a third party software since it’s what you’re using to do everything… giving a third party kernel access is very risky because all it takes is 1 bad actor or inside threat to put out a patch that’s (let’s say a logic bomb) and then without anyone knowing (because we know how good riot is with bugs and fixing things) and data can get stolen, malware can get sent out, it could be as bad as brick your machine or give someone complete access to your machine remotely. When asked about this like I said, riot’s reply was something along the lines of “we don’t think it will happen” which is just an awful answer to a legitimate concern. As far as windows goes, your local files aren’t shared within MS on some random servers (unless you use one drive or the like which is a whole other discussion) because it’s all saved locally and they tell you what they’re collecting up front (because they can get sued into the ground by everyone if anyone finds out otherwise). Windows patches have vulnerabilities but the patches are usually tested and most of the time they aren’t necessary to download as soon as they come out. Telemetry and metadata is taken by pretty much every company at this point, and is usually agreed upon in the EULA, but you can obscure that through various steps (if you couldn’t, the dark web wouldn’t exist). TLDR: No, your OS can’t be invasive in the same way a third party program can. Your OS also isn’t going to permanently block regular programs from running or potentially collect data you didn’t know about unless you just don’t know what data is collected normally or how to get around it if you don’t want it to happen

The changes are good but it needs to be a little more, A simple change they could do is just to make his iris larger, reptiles don't really show that much eye whites. They probably did it to show more expression in his eyes but you can do that with the dilation of the pupils too and remove the human feel his eyes have.

to be fair they were very adamant about keeping their plan under wraps in what they will do about the cheaters, I even pestered them this season about how much bots we were facing and if they were going to do something and honestly it really felt like they failed us this season in preventing this shit, i comfortably sit in silver normally but with the amount of issues and cheaters I faced this season I dropped to iron. Those who say there is no cheats for league then they do not understand how a simple software can create scripts that can run on your UI and affect how you play as a player, ive seen my homeboy run a script that laterally pinged enemy jungle position and track what the enemy cd is and would force click a sidestep if the enemy was going to throw something that he was going to walk into.

Please do a video on Vanguard and the dangers it poses to player privacy. If you have even a basic understanding of what running at the “kernel level” means, you’ll know that vanguard has almost unrestricted access to your computer. Lots of people argue that all of our data is already sold through browsers, which is true, but this is a completely separate issue entirely. Please reach out to a creator who makes computer security content like Low Level Learning (who has already said he will be quitting league over this) to learn more, or do your own research. This is not getting talked about enough, and I think you have a great platform to spread awareness.

I honestly hope they wont use vanguard 1) its effectively a rootkit (it can literally do anything, even more than a administrative user can do) 2) Linux is completely impossible now. 3) macOS could be removed as target platform given that vanguard is Windows only. 4) It requires TPM + Secure boot on Windows 11. thus after microsoft killing Windows 10, it will be basically impossible to play once riot stops supporting Win10 for older machines. (which most league players run on, i mean common. The game runs on the worst toaster)

As a league player, and a non content creator for league, i have to be brutally honest, while it is sad for those who do use custom skins or skin spotlight (who i have watched for a very, very long time, and is my go to place to check skins that interest me), i'd rather riot prioritize getting the anticheat sytem in and make it good, than whitelist innocent client side tools, at the end of the day, i am here to play the game, and so is the VAST majority of the league playerbase. If i have to never watch a custom skin or a skin spotlight video ever again to have vanguard in, then that is honestly for the better, because league has had a history with scrips, bots and all kinda of weird hacks, and if the majority of that goes away, then that is a sacrifice that we genuinly should be more supportive of. Do i hope riot has an easy and good way to let these harmless tools continue, yes ofc, i love skin spotlights and i used to use custom skins back in the day for fun, but for me as a plyer of the game it is by far not the priority. To add to this, i use stuff like mobafire, for stuff like jungle timers and tft, even if those were to go away too, again, i'd take it, cause it really is just that important to get get rid of all of the botting, and scripting, it will massivly improve the game, and it is a step in the right direction. #save curstom skins, but also #get rid of hacker, bots, scripters

One thing that is also not being talked about much is the fact an entire part of the playerbase is going to be cut off completely. League has for a while mostly worked in Linux with wine and proton but vanguard will completely kill that and riot is still being really stubborn about making an actual linux client even though with the release of the steamdeck and the large increase in the Linux gaming comunity. I myself don't like to use windows because of the massive amount of telemetry data, that makes it actual Spyware. Like actual windows processes will be flagged in anti virus and security software at times its so bad and you can't even install Mac os on another computer if you wanted to

I don't use custom skins, I never have, and I do actually wonder if people could eventually start using custom skins for a competitive advantage (specifically by setting skins onto their enemies so they can have clearer/earlier visuals for skill hitboxes?). BUT, despite all that, I would still really like to see Riot officially allow custom skins to bypass Vanguard in some way. As long as it doesn't compromise the original purpose of Vanguard as an anti cheat.

Vanguard is more concerning because of how intrusive it is, it has gone on record to cause certain BIOS stuff to act up. Nothing should have more access to a computer then the comouters admin. The only thing that has access to the kernel is linux, which is why by putting in vanguard they have essentially said fuck you to a chunk of the player base that has probablt spent money in the game

No word of Vanguard kernel-level access and potential spyware, running in the background 24/7, etc. We should discuss this topic more. It would be more bearable if Vanguard started and stopped with the game and not the whole system.

This was definitely an executive decision to make Smolder more cutesy because as we know from several surveys, cute/sexy champs are infinitely more marketable in East Asia, their biggest market. You can tell they wanted to probably push him in the Spyro direction by making him cartoonish and goofy so that he could hopefully become a mascot/front page character.

1:06 okay, no lie, that is 100% better, the animalistic eyes is what do it, the human eyes just look so out of place and are really distracting. Paired with the more defined face scales makes the face look less human, but still doesn’t throw away the cute factor they were originally going for. THIS, reminds me more of Spyro, without actually being Spyro, rather than some Kid cosplaying as a Dragon through magic.

Riot "addressing" cheating (which was made worse by their own data breach due to their own incompetence) by requiring kernel-level anticheat (that could include "special sauce" from their Chinese parent company Tencent), while ignoring the smurfing and toxicity problems that affect 50x as many games (and could be trivially improved by just copying Valve), is one of the most Riot things ever. Hats off to them for managing to top themselves yet again. (this OBVIOUSLY isn't to say that cheating and botting aren't problems, only that smurfing and toxicity are far worse problems that affect way more players way more often and have less intrusive fixes than Vanguard)

In regards to custom skins they would need to whitelist the skin program which is something they’re not guaranteed to do. So on top of having to run Chinese spyware 24/7 on your computer you cant even mod stuff. Blocking mods is a death sentence for any game

i wish they designed more for the western market. i would like one serious champion that feels inspired by quality writers. we have enough anime characters at this point. it feels like current dev team has never read a book or watched an anime made before 2010
