Leaks ruined the Switch 2

The reason these leaks happened was because Nintendo started mass production before the reveal, which is unusual within the gaming industry for a new platform. Not even Apple has figured out how to prevent leaks of that nature. So if anything, Nintendo brought this upon themselves for not announcing the system before manufacturing started. Although I would argue that it only impacted the hardest of the hardcore, namely us. The average joe who don’t follow this kind of thing closely were still at least somewhat surprised. Likewise, Nintendo’s stock going down after the reveal also happened with the Switch 1 (buy on speculation, sell on reveal). So that part wasn’t exactly unusual.

I purposefully avoided the leaks, I knew they were happening but I didn't see it. But I was still a little disappointed by the reveal, mostly because imo if there was so little changes between the two consoles I don't know why they bothered with the OLED.

All things considered, the Switch 2 is a very interesting direction for Nintendo to go. For so long now, Nintendo has been the company of gimmicks and whacky ideas, and truthfully I'm interested in seeing Nintendo focus more on refining what they've already got rather than reinventing the wheel. That said, the JoyCon magnet thingy looks fragile as heck.

My thought on why this trailer was released now - the leaks revealed all this info. They may have been wanting to wait until late February/early March, but at this point, I think they want to get the confirmation out of the way so people know yeah, that hardware is the hardware. No point hiding it now. So they confirmed the hardware, a game, and are saving the rest of the software reveals for April, when they will be able to show off all the things properly.

I WISH Nintendo had created some non-susceptible to drift joycons for the regular switch, if they weren’t going to have retro compatibility with the switch 2 joycons. I doubt the joycons for switch will get cheaper, even with their known issues

I avoided the leaks, but made an effort to do that. I knew this would leak, because 1. The Switch's successor has been hyped up ever since the Switch was a big success, and 2. the Switch is a physical piece of hardware. I've been following the iPhone and its release cycles for years, and basically, the hardware details always leak like a year or so before the phone comes out. The physical supply chain is leakier than a sieve, and it's just a reality of the modern world. It's not even Nintendo's fault, it's the companies they subcontract to build the physical hardware. You can't hide that anymore these days. Software, though, CAN stay secretive. Sure, it can leak, but that's controlled by Nintendo itself. We often don't know the details of Apple's software fully until release, though usually something gets through. That's why we had no confirmed idea that Mario Kart 9 is a release(?) title. Heck, we still don't know that. It's sad, but that's the reality of modern hardware.

That's why I'm glad that the people who got that Tera Leak from Pokemon decided to NOT leak the info on the new games they are working on. It could just drop any minute, but at least they decided to save us from knowing alll the spoilers years ahead

I don't know if I agree. I mean, even when the leaks dropped, there wasn't much of a surprise around most of them, so why would an official reveal of the same information be much more impactful? What was ever there to get that much more excited about? Seeing the thing for the first time, most people just went 'yeah, that's a Switch alright' and were, at most, glad they didn't go with some ridiculous gimmick and simply iterated upon the formula that worked so well for them. Though they didn't seem to do anything about the ergonomics and replaced the joycon rails with the magnetic snap that could introduce a whole new set of problems the original didn't really have. And they seem to still not have done analog triggers which is also a bummer but one that we've gotten used to. The only actual surprise was the mouse sensor. That would have gotten some traction. But even then, it wouldn't have caused all that much excitement or discourse because we still have no idea how exactly that will be used and can't say for sure how well and comfortably they work without trying them ourselves. The reveal was just not that exciting, leaks or not, and didn't have much to talk about. Doing a reveal like that, without a release date, pricing information, details on any software, etc. just doesn't do that much for anyone. Little more than confirm the most basic assumptions people had of the 'Switch Successor' Nintendo had confirmed to exist for a while already.

I think the problem is just the fact that the reveal IS so hardware based. So the elements of surprise that we would've been expecting from a reveal trailer are nearly all gone based on leaks. I do still think that Nintendo would've shown off this console the same day even if it weren't for leaks, and that they weren't scrambling, but I also think that if they showed off the reveal in a different way, we might have still had some things to freak out about it.

I was honestly shocked, I somehow avoided all the leaks. Mostly because I dont go to redit/twitter/Insta/Facebook at all. I was pretty excited as joycons were nicer, and I really hope that there will be better joycon drift issues. And yes, I do consume game content media, Yong Yea, Legacy and a few others, as well as a lot of PC hardware content but otherwise, I dont go out of my way to look up Nintendo information outside of some games like Monster Hunter that I care about.

💯 this. The leaks revealed a lot. And I am only on KZbin regularly, I didn't see anything from other social media. It seemed like Nintendo reached the point where they had had enough. So they just confirmed what we already knew. And then they said, now you have to wait until WE give you more. I am still excited to see the Switch 2 capabilities and new games, though, I will try to stay away from more leaks. It just feels like too much.

I'm about 90% sure that they weren't planning to show anything until mid march, but the leaks sort of forced their hand. People were talking about how they were tired of hearing about a console that hasn't even been announced yet, so I think that put Nintendo in an unwinnable scenario. Either they reveal it sooner and risk losing the hype, or they wait as planned and risk an even greater backlash at how much of the reveal we already knew. Think it was bad now? imagine how much worse the fanbase's reaction could have been if we had to stew on the leaks for two more months.

I personally feel like this would’ve felt “lackluster” even without the leaks, since it’s literally just a bigger and hopefully more powerful switch. (Which is personally exactly what I wanted, I’m content with it not being something super different or “exciting”) The only thing I wish is that Nintendo would reveal more information before the April direct, since there are bound to be more leaks before then. They could beat the leaks if they just revealed it all now.

I avoided leaks for the most part. I, for one, was excited by the reveal video. If a video had Switch 2 in the title, I skipped it. I dont usually browse through Twitter, so it wasn't hard for me to avoid most spoilers. I don't understand peoole who seek out leaks, then get mad that the console is what they were told it is. It's like a kid sneaking around and finding out what their Christmas presents are, then getting mad when they open them and got what they already saw.

I still know a lot of people who were generally suprised to see it (not super excited but its not like this console is an entirely new concept anyway) because they're not spending their whole day on twitter and reddit or anywhere. Which leaves me to think that letting these leaks "ruin" the experience is only partially at fault of the leakers but even more so on yourself for not just scrolling past it if you ever came across it in the first place. And no that isn't as hard to do as you said in the video because me and my direct friends and family I talked to are by far not the only ones who managed to avoid them. But I digress, RIP to the people for who it was ruined (as if it makes the console less fun to play for some reason...)

I may not be as hardcore into Nintendo as the rest of you, which is probably what explains what I'm about to say but: I was surprised at this announcement! I had at the very least *heard* about the leaks, but I didn't know anything about them and hadn't seen them myself. It was very fun to see the announcement, and I'm extremely stoked to see this next generation of Switch. I know Nintendo hardware isn't the best, and my PS5 or Xbox series X will always where I go for my hardcore gaming, but just knowing I'll have a new round of Nintendo games with fresh hardware is so exciting to me, especially when I literally had no expectations.

Well, I get through leaks. Like, when I see "WOAH, THIS IS GONNA BE IN SWITCH 2!!!", I just scroll and magically, I didn't get leaked. If you've seen everything before the reveal, that just shows you wanted to see all those leaks. If you didn't want to get leaked, you'd just avoid all those leaks. I do my best to avoid speculation channels bc the bulk of them are armchair industry analysts with opinions that haven't progressed past the notion of "console wars". Supposedly credible rumors of a "Switch Pro" swirled all the way through the OLED announcement and failed to materialize because speculators feed on hype. Once it entered the news cycle it got propped up until it was no longer useful. Pure smoke. None of it's real until it is. I'm glad Nintendo finally announced it when they did, lukewarm response or no.

Yeah I didn’t see any leaks and I was still not that excited, it’s bigger, and a few small things are different but I don’t see how that is exciting. Now when they release an AC or Zelda edition I will be ecstatic and prolly loose my mind but the standard stock is barely different enough to note let alone being excited. I have been debating for a year on whether I wait for Switch 2 or buy a backup of my ACNH Switch. I decided on waiting but I’m not getting the new Switch unless/until those editions come out. As for Mario that I am excited about and I will definitely be grabbing it at some point.

Mostlu just the nagnets really dodnt give me good faith they would be durable. Also, the fact that imo it makes the OLED kind of useless because its just an OLED with diffrent controllers. The leaks just confirmed that it's a console not worth caring about. Whoopdidoo it's at the level of a ps4 or an Xbox one. We're already passed that console generation and Nintendo is still sitting at the same mediocrity they've been at since the WiiU. Bring out your Mario Kart 9 and the next Mario party whatever. Pokemon hasnt good the last 2 gens (except arceus in terms of gameplay) rehash the next Zelda to be another BOTW asset reuse. Dump all your overpriced roms onto your overpriced and terrible online service. They've been dropping the ball for years and nobody cares because 2 or 3 good games release on it every year.
