Personally, I would much rather pay more money all at once for a new dlc than paying smaller amounts (but probably adding up to way more than the cost of a dlc in the end) for individual items. Dlc's usually also contain more in the way of content than microtransactions do, since microtransactions usually just amount to more skins/clothes/furniture

To be honest, I think microtransactions are predatory no matter what. I'd rather Nintendo had kept their promise of giving us a full two years of consistent updates, because at least then it wouldn't feel like they were abandoning one of their most popular games ever. Not to mention that microtransactions don't really fit all that well in a game like Animal Crossing that's essentially just a creative tool for most people.

Could you imagine if they actually charge real money for people to get bells easily? If there is anything I learned with Shark Cards (the Microtransaction to GTA 5 Online) that really would not go well.

I definitely understand your point with micro transactions to keep the game alive. But part of the reason why I love this game so much is because almost all of the content is free and it’s not hidden behind a paywall (aside from having nintendo switch online which I don’t have). I do hope that the game updates with small mechanics like mass ordering (in the style of how we buy turnips when buying fruits, trees, shrubs and etc), mass crafting and having more than one building/bridge project completed per day. I’ve been so bored lately even though I haven’t been playing the game for that long that I decided to flatten and redecorate my island just to keep the game alive.🤷🏻‍♀️

I'd rather not be forced to pay extra. The game should be a complete, competent package from the get go Personally I really dislike anything where you have to pay extra for, especially if I already paid for the game. I Get that those things would be present for free games, they gotta make money somehow - doesn't mean I like it though, free to play players should still have some sort of way of getting that stuff, perhaps they just need to work extra hard for it. But if I already paid a lot for a game, and they want me to pay more because what I bought wasn't actually the Full Game? That just seems wrong to me

I feel like they don't exactly fit the label of microtransaction, but they're definitely in the same category. The only thing I don't like about the Sanrio amiibos is that you can't get the villagers unless you buy the cards. At least with the regular amiibos you have ways of getting those villagers without having to pay
@SoraFan23

Yeah it feels like it because it locks a feature where villagers ask you to craft stuff for them and then you have the option to pick whatever villager you want to move out, but that is not in the game normally because it random with the visits at the campsite and the game randomly chooses for you.

I'm not really into the idea personally of microtransactions in Animal Crossing. DLC I'm fine with, as long as it doesn't end up with DLC for hundreds of dollars. If there was a DLC/Expansion to have more islands, I would definetly get that. My Island is 90% finished, museum done, not resetting my island to start a new one, being able to either expand or have multiple islands would be cool. I like how they made stuff like moss really accessible in the DLC, but still possible to obtain without paying. I don't think any item should be locked behind a paywall, even if just furniture, but I suppose the game kind of does that with Sanrio, but at least you can give them away.

Okay, I have been resisting coming on KZbin to watch videos about AC because I’m very much a “I’ll play how I want and I enjoy taking a meandering path with it”. I’ve been playing on and off since 2002 absolutely adore it. I am also a daily Pocket Camp player since it came out and feel the same about microtransactions in that game. I do every single challenge and have collected every piece of furniture I can…. for free. BUT! I will say, it would be so pleasing to have a little bit of Pocket Camp in New Horizons. Like you said, THE FURNITURE! But also, the challenges keep me engaged! I wish there were more things like that in ACNH. Other than that, I am a diehard. I don’t time travel or try to do anything super quickly because that misses the whole point of the game for me. It’s a relaxing way for me to spend my time and I love that it’s not a competition. When NH was released I was so excited that so many people started playing it and seemingly loved it as much as I do but now they have all abandoned it because it’s not new and shiny anymore and it makes me sad. I really learned a lot about my friends in more ways than one in 2020. 😂

I would probably like rewards that revolve around animal crossing npcs. Kind of like how we have that May Day event. I would love to be able to earn rewards and play mini games and events with more npcs. That would be adorable

Furniture and clothing items would be the safest bet to take for micro transactions in NH, though I think more paid DLC would be cool too. Like going to new islands to play mini games that are online compatible so you can play with your friends, or even just have those mini games take place on your island so you can create the maps.

Issue was they never included certain features from older games such as mini games. This version of Animal Crossing was great, but was much more of a doll house simulator. Had the game included a better system of connecting with friends , as well as real reasons to keep going to other towns. I imagine this would of been a better game. I think the way that they did the Happy Home Paradise DLC was great because it was basically a whole other game with a separate story line. I think you brought up a good point that we shouldn't be paying for furniture updates. The furniture you could get from HHP wasn't locked behind any paywall, which allowed it to be freely traded to anyone who didn't buy the DLC. So, everyone who didn't buy the DLC didn't feel totally left out. I can't really think of any microtransactions that would make sense in this game, although I would love more content for New Horizons. (By the way, I'm all for Nintendo adding in some more nook app items for free lol, I feel like we only got a few updates to it).

I hope there won't be micro transaction, because I can't afford these things. It would be great to have a small update with a couple of things edited, but honestly I am happy with how the game is right now. I think the community is getting a bit spoiled. We got the roost. (yes without the mini game sadly) We got new Islands to visit and more. Why again wanting more? I don't want to be rude but people should calm down. We have great options in the game and if those people are playing 5-6 hours a day then of course it happens you get fast bored. So in my opinion I am glad how the game is. I will enjoy it the way it is and we will get in a few years a new game which could be better! 💗

Well I already got into a heated argument with most AC Fans but I come to realization that there will be no more updates for this game ever. Nintendo said themselves by last year that they have "no plans" for this game, but they still didn't mentioned what their plans were for the franchise in general. Some people are still in denial saying "Oh this game is not dead" but the truth is most of the people who played since day one back in 2020 have moved on or given up with the game so its too little too late. Same here I found other games to play and I may play ACNH time to time when it clicks with me.

That's the thing, though: So many people are actually willing to spend unholy amounts of money on cosmetics only. Some folks argue those don't have anything to do with gameplay, but if your whole reason to play a game is customizing your characters and weapons, then it's just as if not more predatory than pay to win. Also, they're lots of people with impulse control issues and addictive personality disorders, so that's a whole other bag of questionable business decisions.

I truly understand your point, I really do - but the game isn't ''dead'', it's just completed on Nintendo's eyes. Nintendo never promoted ACNH (or any of their games for that fact), as a game with constant updates that'd keep the game alive for years. Nintendo makes a game, and then moves to the next, which is what tons of people, incluiding myself, like about the company. We're living in a world full of micro-transactions, stuff that should be already payed for, behind even more pay walls.. I don't want Animal Crossing to become that. Micro-transactions would only keep the game alive to those who are fortunate enough to spend cash on games, to most of the population the game would be as good as dead. Paying +300EUR for a console and +60EUR for a game is hard enough, just to put even more money into it. Micro-transactions are predatory, no matter what, we don't need them. I get the feeling of wishing that ACNH was more, wishing that it'd get more updates, etc. but micro-transactions aren't the correct way to do that nor the answer. It's okay to move on from a game, get tired of it and play something else, we should normalize that.

This was a conversation i had a couple days ago while looking fortnite's new battle pass and tho I'd love something like that to keep interest in acnh truth is paying more in a 60 usd game isn't the way. Maybe I'd be ok with just one last major update to add to the game to make it feel complete. I think if Nintendo hadn't have said 3 years of updates and the game didn't feel kinda barebones at launch people will probably be fine with the game's current state
@iamjohnporter67

If Nintendo suddenly changed their minds about not wanting to add more updates to the game then I can see them doing another paid expansion. I know that is something most people don't want but considering how big the Happy Home Paradise was, it actually was something people were willing to pay just to get more content. I am not sure how much it sold after its release last year. If it did well maybe it will convince Nintendo that they can add more content to the game. I mean look at Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. That game has a lot of planned DLC waves coming and it seems like they don't plan on making Mario Kart 9 anytime soon. I know people are asking and begging Nintendo for more content with ACNH considering that Pocket Camp is still getting updates with all the microtransactions but at this point we really don't know what goes on behind the scenes. Maybe they are just too busy on the newer games to even care about the game. Nintendo is very weird with the way they support their games and its like they release a game, content is missing, and then they add in later, but then by that point people have already moved on.

This is very thought-provoking. Personally, I feel the opposite way of Koramora regarding things like Fall Guys - as someone who spent £12 on Fall Guys when it was new, it really sucked to see that that £12 would later mean nothing and I'd get treated like a free-to-play regardless, having to pay real money for all the costumes, instead of earning them by grinding the in-game currency (unless I have a season pass, but that costs real money too). Fall Guys sold itself to me as a completely different game to what Epic Games turned it into. Specifically to Animal Crossing, New Horizons is in a very awkward place for what it is: it costs £50/$60 to buy outright and microtransactions are a very hard sell on top of a price tag like that, but also it's still missing a few features from the older games, and it would look incredibly suspicious to have them be sold separately to customers - look at how people reacted to Pokémon Sword and Shield missing Pokémon from the national dex, and then they suspiciously came back for the paid DLC, for example. Part of me would feel like Animal Crossing New Horizons would benefit from going free-to-play and selling microtransactions, but like I described with Fall Guys, that would leave a lot of people who paid $60 for it unhappy. Maybe the only way for New Horizons to make more money without upsetting too many people would be to do something completely separate to the main game, like you swim to what was previously out-of-bounds and there's a new island with fruit, some minigames where you can grind bells really quickly, and maybe new fish, bugs, etc. I'm just making it up as I go along here, but something that doesn't feel too integral to the main game to upset people, y'know?

Look I know people still keep hoping for updates for this game, but right now its just becoming more pointless. Unless you mod your switch there is really not much else to do in this game. You're better off just playing different games and just put the game down for good. I know this is a hard thing for most people to do but it will be a LONG time until we get a brand new mainline AC game most likely on the new Nintendo system whenever that is. Also no Micotransactions are not the solution to games these days.

honesty, I really like splatoon's approach to the battle pass. I really hate microtransactions and getting these cool items in the catalog just for playing makes me wanna play the game more. I thin animal crossing could benefit from a battle pass "catalog" like splatoon. even with that tho it seems like splatoon's catalog has a time limit (I think they end late next year or the year after?). so it is a really weird issue.

I’m personally over micro transactions in general. gone are the days when fully finished games were released ready to play and you had to pay only one price. now we’re practically forced to pay a whole new bill just to play video games-games that are released with bugs, lack luster content, and expensive for no reason other than…well, because the developers want them to be. this new business model just feels grimy and predatory in general.

Really if I could have anything in Animal Crossing it would be the ability to have MORE THAN ONE ISLAND PER SWITCH. Seriously it's not that hard to put multiple game save files in a game but noooooooo......

If the GameCube could have up to FOUR towns with 15 villagers each, why not do that for later games? I hope we get that feature in the next installment

Hoping the following doesn't come off as mean! I truly do not understand calling a full game that I bought and paid full-price for being "dead" lol. I could never consider my favorite games like any of the LoZs or pre-mmorpg Final Fantasy to be dead even though they are old and have no new content, I still play them and so do many others. Even Sims 3 is still super fun and not dead even though there's no new content for it because Sims 4 exists. ACNH almost has more playability compared to those titles because you can always tear everything on your island down and there's over 300 villagers to swap out/get photos of. And best of all, you don't have to play with other people to progress the game. idk! I think a lot of people still love and play ACNH, the hype is just gone because it's not new. It's a game about creativity, and it's okay to just be bored of it or tapped out on new ways to design. Rathen than focus on more new content for the game, it would be cool if Nintendo were working on a new Animal Crossing, or just putting that effort towards any other Switch game. I would personally hate if they made ACNH microtransactional, and would not spend extra real money on it, just like I don't pay real money to play Pocket Camp. I really think it's predatory for companies to make a feature in such games, especially when they know kids are going to be playing them (possibly on their parents' dimes without them knowing). It really nags at the impulse control for some adults I know, can't imagine how worse it is for kids. Most of the seasonal items come back around a couple times a year anyway, so you can just save up more leaf tickets for next time around.

I don't even think we need new furniture. I think we need the final upgrade to Nooks Cranny to Nookingtons (okay I guess new furniture with Gracy Grace), we need minigame island, Brewsters game, and we need sassy villagers back. Those 4 things and I would be a happy clam 🤩

I don't know. I feel like no matter how much people love to complain about the lack of updates, we've all got our money's worth since the game's release. What other game offers playtime of at least 1000hrs for only 60 bucks? Heck, after I finished my first island in late 2020, I even caved in and bought a whole other console to have a 2nd island; just because I didn't want to flatten my OG island. (That's really the only gripe I have, not being able to have multiple islands on one console). And even then, when compared to other games riddled with microtransactions, I easily still got another 2000hrs out of the game on my 2nd switch as well. Then the big 2.0 update hit and I was struggling to decide which island to play on first lol. Also, it's not really a bad thing to simply let a game "die". The beauty of all these games without battle passes is that you can always return to them whenever you want to and not immedtaiely feel like you're completely out of the loop. I still go back to New Leaf or even older generations of Pokémon games if inspiration strikes. Nobody can take that away from us. That's most often not the case with many live service games. As soon as they aren't profitable anymore, they'll just shut down their server and leave you with nothing but bitterwseet memories of all the money you spent on digital goods. I'd much rather have a game "on hand" 🤷‍♀

Animal Crossing ws one of the few games I honestly wouldn't mind having something like a subscription service, because it's one of the games I want to keep playing for a long time. Of course, what I *really* want is deeper villager interactions (both villager to player and villager to villager) and New Horizons never really got there for me, but if they could make that happen I'd totally pay to keep getting things to decorate with and do.

Honestly, if they were to make more paid DLC, it would likely be a goldmine. Animal Crossing has always been a BIG part of Nintendo, and they know it. After all, two or so years after New Leaf they released the Amiibo DLC, when they could’ve just ignored New Leaf instead of giving back to the game and giving new villagers, new furniture and new clothing of course, and then people who didn’t have NL before, BOUGHT the game (like me!!) 2 years after release!! It paid off!! Updating ACNH would most definitely be worth the updates. But let’s be honest, Nintendo is very iffy about their games. Sometimes they care too much about the wrong games then the ones that will make them money for real.

Ah yes, those darn walri… I feel like NH still isn’t where it should be even when it first launched. So much stripped content. On principle, NH should continue to be updated for free until they at least match the amount of content NL had, but as u say, working for free isn’t plausible. At this point even paid DLC would be fine with me. Imagine a strip mall for $20. Feel like that could be enough to bring a lot of players back, especially if u could travel there together. NH and AC games in general have so much potential for creative content to make the game more enjoyable. Idg why they don’t capitalize on that.

I stopped playing the game a few months ago due to just not having the motivation to complete my island (again) and because apparently Nintendo made an update to requirements for online play or something, and now I am unable to play on others islands and they can't come to mine. I bought switch online for a whole year so I know it has something to do with my NAT type. I can't even change my NAT type because in order to do that we'd have to switch the company we use for wifi. We live in a small town in Texas, and the only company they will get us wifi here is Suddenlink, so we can't switch it. I am also unable to even load cloud games because of that, which is stupid, but that's not what I'm gonna complain about. I most likely will be getting a Switch Oled (the scarlet and violet one cause heck yes, also I use a v1 switch and that's why) around Christmas time so I might make a new island on there, however there is basically nothing else to do in the game. My main island is at 5 stars, and although it isn't finished, I've basically completed everything I wanted to in the game. Tbh I didn't care all that much about the customizability in the game, as I mainly just wanted to have the village/island living aspect of the game. After completing all the things it has to offer, which you can usually do within a month if you get on everyday, there's literally nothing else to do but decorate your island unless you have the dlc. When the 2.0 update came out I was so excited, and it did add things that we were all hoping for, but it didn't give us anything that would last us longer than a month's worth of play time. The villagers are still boring, you can't upgrade buildings, and the online aspect is bare minimum. I can't even play online anymore anyway due to Nintendo not supporting internet outside of big cities 🙃 I wish I could do more in the game without feeling drained, but sadly it most likely won't happen. My previous island will probably sit and rot for a while and if I do make a new island, I would be able to play on others islands like I did before. I don't think they're going to add anything, but if they did that would be awesome. For right now I'll just wait for a new game that hopefully will work out better. Anyway, sorry for the long typing, just wanted to vent lol

I'd pay for extra things. Id be screaming if they gave me berry shrubs, more types of flowers and fruits, and more custom code slots. My island is Mario sunshine's Delfino, i wish the game had more tropical fruits besides just oranges. I've always wanted bananas and mangos too and actual watermelon plants for my Gelato Beach. Although i'm going for a stylized style to my island so my codes aren't being eaten up by too many ultra realistic codes being that it somewhat looks like bois crossing, and toffy's islands but with my own colorful spin to it, still more codes would make the island so much more lively rather than me having to hold back from downloading all the codes that id love to have for the ones that i actually need. As far as more updates, Furnitures aren't really that big of a concern for me, but the things I've always wanted was more options and some quality of life stuff like us not having to fly back to our island every time we're villager hunting and being forced to go through the same dialog every time with Orvile, When we're visiting other islands when someone has bad connection we don't all have to pay for it and it just affects only the person with the bad connection, us not having to sit through loading screens of other people flying to a host island, them making printing NMT faster or in bulks, and to some extent them making kicking villagers easier..... And for everything else that i would have loved to have are more fruits mainly tropical fruits, they don't all have to be their own trees but some can be on sacked trees like the cocoa plant furniture item. Since day one ive always wanted berries in the game both as it's own category of fruits and also as their own tree aka berry shrubs. The only Furnitures i now wish was in the game was more basket items, larger baskets with the option to have things in them like towels, fruits, flowers.... More types of flowers would be nice, i mean why not? I don't mind the stuff they display fish bugs and sea creatures in but i hate what they have the goldfishes and koi fish in, id love a simple glass bowl for the goldfish and for the koi fish to be in what they have the goldfish in. I want the fish bag as a dropped item. More custom codes, 100 is great and all but paths still tend to take up a lot of slots. I've always wanted the ability to attach a chosen sound onto our custom paths so it actually sounds like we're running on wood, metal, dirt, gravel, puddles..... And why couldn't they have us place the Abel sister's patterns on the ground like a blanket? I've also always wanted us to choose the climate of our islands like us choosing to keep them temperate or tropical, or even arctic, it's redundant as hell to always have to time travel to a specific season every time just because we chose to make a tropical themed island.... I also want the option to actually customize our islands like us being able to choose the color of the cliffs and sand because ive wanted that since 2020 too only for them to actually introduce it to the game with happy home but keeping it only for the stupid archipelago and kap'n islands >.>

I'm ok with the game as is. My first island is complete and will not change though I use my second switch to reset and design islands in different ways. At this point my primary is a resource for the one I'm actually playing...bells, furniture...etc. I hate microtranactions and would prefer a dlc or battlepass. ACNH is my only Animal Crossing game...Kora's how to videos in 2020 kept me from snapping my switch in half from frustration. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Frankly, this is largely an issue of cultural shift around video games. Within the last 20 years we went from games being mostly released as complete packages with no additional content besides the occasional DLC to having it be completely commonplace for a game to be shipped with huge swaths of content needing a day one patch to make the game finished. And that isn't even including DLC roadmaps which have also become ubiquitous. Frankly, I don't think any game that isn't free to play should have any microtransactions in them. So I don't care if interest in Animal Crossing New Horizons has faded due to no longer getting updates. It's largely meant to be a single player experience anyway.

nintendo has millions of small children who play their games as well so while i would love to pay for a dlc but microtransactions would be potentially a dangerous problem for kids with their parents CC who don't yet understand how money works; it's also a very slippery slope if you're not prepared for all Nintendo games to have microtransactions i would say don't expect them to cherry pick a lucrative but exploitative system into 1 game and not put it in another

Personally I would rather have no more updates instead of lootboxes or microtransactions. Microtransactions are the cheapest way to make money in my opinion. Nintendo can make money WITHOUT microtransaction and the awsner is easy: Crossover items and villagers. The villagers are more or less just textures anyway and this would bring new life in the game.
