Composed and recorded by Bill Withers, released in 1972 as part of the album Still Bill. The song reached no. 1 in the Billboards Hot100. The song was inspired by his childhood memories while growing up in the coal mining town of Slab Fork in West Virginia. Although the lyrics and chords are simple, the song gives the warth and assurance of the strong family and community orientation in his hometown. The main instrumentation is the piano, with bass, strings, gutiar, and drums. The song is highlighted by the iconic clapping in the chorus. One of the notable cover of the song was done in 2020 by ArtistCAN, a supergroup composed of Canadian artists including Bryan Adams, Justin Bieber, Michael Bublé, Avril Lavigne, Sarah McLachlan, to name a few. It was a tribute to Bill Withers and a campaign to raise funds for the Canadian Red Cross during the COVID 19 pandemic.
I added clappings and backup vocals to compliment the acoustic sound of the song. This is truly one of the heartfelt songs of the era.
