At age 10, she sang the national anthem, a cappella, prior to a Dallas Cowboys football game in Texas. She had her first hit Blue, which is amazing, at age 13. She has an insane voice range.

Thank you Jeff for this wonderful request, and I can't believe Don had never done LeAnn either. Also thanks for the summary you wrote in the comments. I fell in love with LeAnn's voice when she released "Blue", a song originally written for Patsy Cline. LeAnn does that song the justice it deserves given that pedigree. Since she was only 13 at the time she recorded it, my circle of friends nicknamed her "the kid". Don you should react to "Blue" - there's nothing MOR about it. And thanks for this great reaction!

Thanks Terry Glad you liked the request. I just thought LeAnn needed some love on the channel too.The Patsy Cline song you're thinking of is "Crazy". Can you believe she was 17, whem she did that one. I also like her version of "Unchained Melody"

@@jcat__ I was thinking about Blue, but I was wrong about it being written for Patsy. "Blue" is a song released in 1958 by Bill Mack, an American songwriter-country artist and country radio disc jockey. It has since been covered by several artists, in particular by country singer LeAnn Rimes, whose 1996 version became a hit. The song won Mack the 1996 Grammy Award for Best Country Song. He has denied the popular misconception that he wrote it for Patsy - he says it just came to him. Mack's friend Roy Drusky suggested he pitch "Blue" to Patsy Cline in an effort to make the song a hit, so Mack gave a tape to Cline's husband Charlie Dick, but Cline died in a plane crash in 1963 before she could record it. When you listen to LeAnn sing Blue it's hard not to think of Patsy. All this thanks to Wikipedia ....

LeAnn, much like Shania and Faith, had a voice that could go from country to crossover pop with ease. I believe this is from the movie Coyote Ugly

Thank you for reacting to the great LeAnn Rimes. She is undisputablely in my top 5 of female artists. And for you Don, cos you came late to the country party, she is the voice you hear when you hear the character 'Jersey' sing in 'Coyoe Ugly' even though Piper Perabo can sing. The song was written by Diane Warren, who won Billboards Songwriter of the Year award 3 ears in a row. LeAnn recorded the song in 1997 when she was just 15 years old. It was the first release from her second album. The song never hit #1 but peaked at #2 on both the country and pop charts. But it did hit #1 on the adult contemporary chart. It spent a record 69 weeks on the charts, which it held for 12 years. The single was certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA, highest of any single for that time. It is Billboards #1 song of the 1990's (remember she was only 15 when all this happened). Funny story, she would always play Portland in the month of September. I would always go to her concert as part of my birthday celebration. I did that for 8 years in a row. When she found out she was a big part of my birthday celebration for 8 years, she signed a copy of every CD (up to that time) in her catalog and gave them to me. I was goings to pick another of my favorite LeAnn songs "Goo Friends And A Glass Of Wine", cos isn't that all we need, but thought you might poo-poo all over it and I would have to get all mad and stuff and shoot you 🙂🙂 8.8 ????????? Boy are you waaaaaaaaaaaaay off

She 14 when she recorded this song, it also hit #1 on the Billboard Country singles sales chart (which is just actual record sales not radio) for a then record 34 weeks in a row. How Do I Live hit #1 on the adult contemporary chart for 11 weeks in a row.

Blue was great, but Mandy Barnett literally was "Patsy Cline". Here she is singing "Blue Moon Of Kentucky" as Patsy on stage at the Grand Ole Opry at age 18 in 1994. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6K4mnaCbLNrndk

Don, this song was released to radio by both LeAnn Rimes and Trisha Yearwood on the same date. LeAnn has an incredeible voice and does a fantastic job on this.! Some critics expressed that Yearwood's voice was more mature and conveyed the "depth and intensity to convey the love and longing in the lyric.". (Yearwood's version was also featured in the movie, "Con Air"). According to Wikipedia, LeAnn's version peaked at No. 2 for five non-consecutive weeks in late 1997 and early 1998 and set a record at that time for staying on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 69 weeks. Despite that, Yearwood's version was the more successful version on country radio and consequently "was among the top 20 biggest country singles of 1997", while Rimes' version was "the ninth and fifth best- charting singles on the pop charts for the years 1997 and 1998, respectively." Internationally, Rimes' version outperformed Yearwood's. Don't you know songwriter Diane Warren sure wasn't hurt by all that chart and radio completion 😄. Any songwriter would love to have a song like that battling for popularity on the radio by multiple artists!!!

Dang. 8.8? This is in every top 100 country song list I’ve ever seen.
@RockN2Country
@RockN2Country 23 күн бұрын
@shawnpilgrim2355 Those lists probably include commercial success, radio airtime and other aspects of the industry, but I don't consider those when I listen to and rate a song. They'd probably never have a Courtney Patton, Jason Isbell or John Prine song in their top 100, but I would. My list of songs that I've rated a 10 probably doesn't include more than a couple that would break their top 100, and possibly none. Lyrically speaking, LeAnn's song was just okay, and instrumentally wasn't anything special, either. Her singing and emotionality made the song, but that's rarely enough to put a song in the 9 category.

Looked like an old time Hollywood Movie Star. She was also a classically trained pianist. Could sing any style. Brilliant song writer. One of the most under pushed artists ever. I wasn't a huge LeAnn Rimes fan. I mean she was a great singer, very talented no denying, and I bought her debut album. But just like with Faith Hill, I resented the immediate heavy push they got that allot of my favorites rarely or never received. Don, now that you've gotten to LeAnn after 6 and half years, how about you do the same with Kelly Willis? Start with this one here called "Don't Be Afraid". kzbin.info/www/bejne/hp3LiX6wiK6bnNk

I love this version, but honestly, you really can't beat Trisha Yearwood. The movie Con Air actually was set to use this version, then finding out LeAnn's age, decided to go with the more mature sound of Trisha Yearwood. So LeAnn's version came out 1st, shortly followed by Trisha's version.
