Not sure why people are using those caricature style avatars still. 10 years ago even Second Life had far more realistic avatars. For a while there was interest from business, IBM, Mercedes etc, but few people could actually take it seriously for business meetings. They certainly wont take it seriously with those avatars that Meta are now displaying. Game design is a million times ahead of those now. I appreciate the closer you get to reality the more exact you need to get, but that's where we should be going towards, or else the 'metaverse' is going to sink out of sight like SL has pretty much done

Who has the power to stop Facebook from expanding it? Facebook/Meta are already ahead of the competition, decimating the competition in VR with their loss-leader Quest 2 headsets. Either governments need to split up this new monopoly, or the market needs to strip them of their massive bargaining power by going elsewhere. But first some rich tech company needs to offer a viable alternative to Quest 2, to sway consumers. Right now, there's effectively nothing that competes.

Very excited about the metaverse, but desperately need an actor to get ahead of privacy and ethical concerns. E.g. if Firefox for example, who has a good track record of privacy-enabling tools, were to get big investment to compete with a $300 headset and infrastructure which values openness, supports Steam, privacy, and security. We need a company that doesn't subvert elections and incite genocide in the interest of maximum engagement: Let's be clear - I do not trust Meta at all, not to sell up to 80% of an individual's visual field before inducing seizures.

You yourself have not yet enough 'digital sense' (there is no such thing as digital sense) to advise or teach anyone anything about metaverse, as it is not yet a reality, and when the Senate figure out the security and privacy and political propaganda influence that will be rife on the Metaverse, and much harder for them to discover it all... well they will close it down or make it a place where you are silenced for dissidence, your capital gains are spied on, as well as your political views and activities, religious and so on.. might as well pull your pants down in front of everybody

That avi looked very primitive and old dated, made me laugh like mad. ANYWAY if you want see metaverse go to Second Life. SL is metaverse already many many years. You can do all what they promise already there: go to concerts, have latest fashion with good textures and mesh / not like ones what you saw in video/, play games, earn money / real money/, create, wander, have work meetings, make perfomances to rl customer..... there isnt end what you can do there. Dreams about VR and touch and so on.... they come but not tomorrow, it takes 5-15 years at least. So dont storm on empty promises....just use metaverse what is already here. Dont be late and miss it. P.S. those sneakers ....not good, I have in SL many pairs what look better.

I think wearing the glasses while sitting at a cafe and doing work is a bad idea. First why go to the cafe in the first place if you’re just going to sit there wearing the glasses lol and second and more importantly is safety. You would be quite vulnerable to theft or worse because you will be wearing the glasses and in the workspace not really paying attention to your surroundings. And you know as well as I do that bad guys always find a way to exploit things. Also, I much prefer human interaction. The current lockdowns have been a terrible experience for me.
