Currently on a journey restoring and making an 05 Kawasaki vulcan 500 mine. With only 4000 miles on it I wanted to bring it back to life and really be happy. And the stock carbs and exhaust just couldn't cut it.. So here are my babies im tuning for my big baby to breathe through.

for anyone watching this in 2022, the Mikuni pilot jets will fit right in there and give you powerjet tuning ability. If you use the longer style pilot jets that have their own emulsion tube, slightly enlarging the hole in the carb air inlet will allow the emulsion tube of the pilot to stick out and provide much faster fuel draw and atomization.

Air filters will make a big difference, it’ll create more vacuum between the throttle slide and the inlet of the carb

these are the best carbs you can get in my opinion I had the 26mm on my 150 and what a difference, my power jet was a 28 I believe so I added that to the main jet size I had to go down a few on the main to get it right

The PJ works with the negative pressure caused by the air flowing into the carburetor's mouth. That's what is sucking the mixture up from the bowl to the PJ. I don't think it can work the way you described, by removing the PJ and using a normal jet instead, because then the air flowing by, will just simply draw air from the jet at the top, and there won't be enough negative pressure to suck mixture from the bowl. Did you test it already?

Yes it works well to give the extra edge of tuning up top. I played with a couple different open and closed combinations of caps and actual pj sizes and could achieve similar afr. There's enough of a draw from the baby venturi it has become instead of a straight vacuum pull. Still always recommended a check valve for the PJ to keep fuel at the ready in the line.

Hey brother just some advice and it's a wonderful tuning tool almost impossible to tune or at least kinda know where your at but if that exhaust goes 2 into 1 throw a wideband on there dude aem or plx if it's dual single then you May need 2 sensors or just go by what 1 cylinder is telling you.

Actually had a wideband much later on when i built a turbo kit, instead of just my ears and butt dyno to adjust it helped greatly.

I think the problem you’re describing in which the bike bogs on quick throttle from closed at low rpm is more about the throttle slide cutaway, pilot jet and needle combo. The powerjet is for 3/4-full throttle. I put one on a 83 XT250 and had the same problem. It would bog due to rich condition and ended up grinding my throttle slide cut-away.

Quick snap to full throttle is what causes the bog, if you give a millisecond at 1/4 then snap it works fine. Definitely not the slide but probably could be mitigated by a different slide cut that has more of an affect but once wide open the pressure differential is so large that at low rpm it can't pull a proper vacuum to pull fuel up the needle. Could fix with smaller carb but then you'll loose top end from air restrictions if you have a high revving motor.

Eliminate the power jet you don't need it on a four stroke and it just makes tuning more difficult.

Your fuel pressure alone should be enough to fill the bowl as well as the accelerator pump line not needing the check valve 👀

Running a nibbi n26 on a fully built stage 3 lawnmower engine 196cc and my top and bottom is so sick it will bring the bike out from under you

I'd swap mikuni power jets in, they are long so it feed fuel into the center and has a screw to tune it

If you want it to come on earlier, sure, the lower the outlet in the spigot the quicker it will activate. As is, it only activates at wide open. If you add a long nozzle the lower end in the spigot will tell it to activate once the slide passes that nozzle. If you need it to come on early, go for it.

You are creating a hole to suck air and dirt making it run leaner than what it already is and it won’t vacuum pull the fuel up from the bowl cause it would just be easier for it to pull air through the jet hole

Old video my dear, but interesting to me. I´m jetting my carb and i´m researching all around. My friend, this power jet is not to feed with more fuel your engine. What this does is maintain your fuel carb bowl allways full. It´s like a jetpump, a simple fuel pump. You are right, the plug needs to be substituted by a jet to generate venturi. No, the power jet was put onto these Japanese carburetors to overcome 2 stroke engines running lean at full throttle. At wide open throttle the power jet delivers extra fuel.
