77tubuck I can't really agree with you because this is about getting the minority group involved in computer science. Im a girl in high school atm and most of the boys I know already know how to code and make up the majority of the robotics team at my school. If it was a program called students who code you would not be reaching out to the minority instead girls would probably feel left out thinking "oh I'll probably be the only girl there". Even my mom sees the problem with computer science as my career choice saying "I'm not likely to get a job because I'm a girl it's men who are more into that job type". Maybe your a guy feeling left out because you want to join a big program like this but I just wanted to say this is why it's girls who code and hopefully you'll a program more suited to you if you are looking for one.

Katya Civil I did not give you an opinion you can disagree with; I gave you a fact. "oh I'll probably be the only girl there." Why does it matter to you if you are the only girl there? Do you think if a Scottish person came to America and took a programming course he would worry about being the only Scottish person taking the course? "hopefully you'll a program more suited to you if you are looking for one." If you are that bothered about the gender of the other people in computer programming then maybe you are not that interested programming. When I took my first programming class in high school in 1991 I did not think about the ratio of boys to girls. Your mom is wrong.

77tubuck Maybe we're not all as brave as you maybe we are interested but worried about how big of a career choice it is and pay attention to the specifics because we don't wanna end up jobless in the future because we weren't favored over another group. Also maybe if that Scottish person heard rumors that only Americans would get those kind of jobs he or she would be a little bit worried as well. And yes I know my mom's wrong I wasn't worried about being the only girl but now shes trying to change my decision. I sort of wanted to show off that there are programs for girls to join this job type . I don't see girls encouraging other girls as a bad thing....Funny how I'm saying this but I just thought about it from opposite gender then saw how these girls were getting this cool opportunity to get noticed by big corporations and I can see where your coming from......but then again things that are for the minority tend to get more attention like I haven't seen many tech programs as popular as this one. huh maybe it would be cool if they allowed both genders just advertised to get attention from girls so both genders get same opportunity...then again society isn't perfect and are trying to equal things out or whatever because of statistics and the past.....know what I'll think about this one. Also just as I didn't have to disagree with your fact you don't have to reply or read this if you don't want to.

Well if organizations like girls who code would stop telling lies about women facing discrimination then maybe girls would feel more comfortable going into those careers. Men are discriminated in STEM fields (There is proof of that). "Society isn't perfect and are trying to equal things out..." That is true society is not perfect because over 60% of college and university students are female.
