This series transcended all I came to associate with this type of fantasy. Yes it was short, a short series but every scene, every word touched my heart and soul like this was a meditation for them.

@The Knight Watcher compared to the fantasy series coming out nowadays. In this case it’s quality of quantity.

Ursula was so gracious always about the Harry Potter thing. She only made vague comments pertaining to the commercialization of the ideas... and how that commercialization ultimately degraded the concept of ideas in and of themselves. She never really wanted to commodify her ideas in this way

Le Guin's books are in a completely different genre from HP. There is the tenuous connection of a young boy going to wizarding school. But that is all. HP is a ripping good yarn. Le Guin writes high fantasy in a rich, poetic language with many layers of meaning. They are both good sets of books but comparing them is a bit silly.

Earthsea series was a HUGE influence on my childhood, especially when I finally began my transition to adolescence. Read the first book ('A Wizard of Earthsea'), I was hooked from the very first chapter! Ged aka Sparrowhawk (along with Bilbo Baggins from J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Hobbit') are still my all-time favorite fantasy heroes to this day. Shame the Sci-Fi Channel couldn't stay true to the source material when they came out with that complete JOKE of a mini-series nearly 20 years ago 😠. Maybe someday, some truly inspired studio out there will finally get it right. Ms. Le Guin certainly deserves better, that's for darn sure... 😉

Hey don't know if you found the song but the artist is William Ryan Fritch, he's an incredible musician highly recommended to check out his extensive works on KZbin or bandcamp. Unfortunately I couldn't find this piece. There are songs with elements of it but sadly it's not there.

A Wizard of EarthSea is the superior novel of wizard fantasy. Harry Potter is a straight up rip off. Ged = Harry Ogion = hagrid The Arch mage = Dumbledore Vetch = Ron weasly Jasper = Draco Roke = hogwarts The Shadow = voldemort The comparisons are to spot on and almost embarrassing. Neil Gaiman even said it in the video that Earthsea.... It is the BEST.
@alekseimutovkin3 жыл бұрын
HP is about being "special" withoung giving much effort. Wisard of Earthsea is about growing up and learning on your mistakes. There is a deep idea behind WoE. There is just a shallow, mediocre "soft pussy wannabe" wet dreams in HP.

That's rubbish. Protagonist, friend, enemy - these are the usual tropes

This feels like you are insulting Earthsea rather than Harry Potter.

@@arckocsog253there is nothing wrong with usual tropes. Fantasy literally started to get popularity with Tolkiens books. The usual tropes were not so usual back then
