After years of razor burn, irritated skin going from trac ll to 6 blade cartridges I progressed from razor burn to ingrown hairs. Out of desperation I tried double edge and eventually straight razor shaving. I have never looked back!! I’m in my 30’s so I remember using the old disposable razors that had zero swivel. After a decade or more of using cartridges $$$$/Red ingrown neck hairs I went to Safety razor- in an instant my irritation was gone. My muscle-memory of using those non-swivel disposables came right back and I knew how to shave at the correct angle- the #1 MOST difficult thing & only (haven’t cut myself yet & I’m hairy) is finding the best blade!!!! This took me forever and is why I kept giving up in the years I’ve owned a safety. The dull crappy blades are ubiquitous - they’re at every drugstore/grocer - go with online quality blades. Feathers are amazing.

Theyve passed and I still live in the house, soo much old stuff around. Woulda never cared for it when using cartridges but 2 weeks into DE razors and I find this gem.. Less (absolutely no) razor burn! I switched from a cartridge type to a safety razor with good quality blades. (Feather) after getting the pressure right (you can easily slice yourself using the feathers) he's right they're stupidly sharp. Used to get a whole ton of razor burn with a Gillette mach 3. I normally only shave twice a week and I've got a year's worth of blades for $20. The process is really enjoyable and the shave is the best I've ever had. Hi from across the pond. I have used twin edge razors for over half a century and wouldn't have it any other way. The newer plastic dispensers take used blades in the bottom. One suggestion is to ask your doctor's surgery to dispose of your old blades in a dedicated sharps waste container for proper disposal. I personally would like to see this service offered by local pharmacies to their customers, perhaps one day?.

Great video! I really learned a lot regarding my newest obsession. Couple of questions: 1) Why shouldn't you wipe down the blade? (6:08) 2) Why fold the blade in half when disposing? (7:58)
@itachi1742
@itachi1742 2 жыл бұрын
Just guessing here, but: 1) Cause you can possibly dull or dent the edge of the blade, which will cause nicks during your next shave. 2) Less surface area = less possibility of someone cutting themselves when pushing down on the garbage bag.

@@itachi1742 Ah - makes sense. Thanks for the reply! I was also wondering for the first item (not wiping the blade): maybe that could also wear away any coating the manufacturer applied?

I was looking for a cheaper and better solution for shaving. Gilette catriges i used was very good but lasted around a month. I swithed to those good old fashioned blades and i was really impressed. Shaving becomes fun hearing the cutting. One blade last me two months. I had some cuts in the begining trying to find the best way to shave with those razors. My conclusion: in certain cases try to use old fashioned solutions. They might work better than high tech b.s.

I purchased a leaf twig razor on Black Friday. It was on my doorstep within three days which was awesome and I ordered extra blades from Amazon. I ordered Parker man are they sharp! At least they feel sharper than the leaf sample blades that they give you with the razor. I cleaned two blades so far with my sonic cleaner that uses water to clean things with a sonic piece that goes in the water and it plugs into the wall. It seems to rejuvenate the blades which I think are totally reusable, but they’re so cheap. I think I’ll keep them and try bulk cleaning them Once a year and reuse some of the blades. It’s so nice not having to purchase the Harry’s brand replaceable heads all the time! I should’ve done this a long time ago! I came close to buying a safety razor years ago and was out a mistake not buying it. I was scared that it was going to cut me. Luckily, I haven’t cut myself not even once yet. I rubbed my face down with an alum solid stone bar after each shave. Then I finish with a super cheap Bay rum aftershave. Or I use the leftover Harry’s aftershave which I love that product. Going to start looking into other products right now I’m just using edge gel shaving foam. For years, I just used Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap. I might have to give that a whirl with the new razor, but it just seems like you should have some foam when you’re using a single edge. Thanks for the interesting video.

I love how these shavers dont get clogged up with hair the way those multi blade shavers do. I would often toss them because they would become clogged and worthless. It used to be that steel bodied medicine chests had slots in the sides of them for you to dispose of the blades of safety razors. When I was a plumbers apprentice (a few decades ago) we removed and replaced a lot of these medicine chests only to have hundreds of rusty razor blades come tumbling out of the space between the chest and the studs.

Safety razors are the best for really coars hair. I get 3-4 shaves with my safety razor, where disposables, I use to use 2 razors per shave, razor would be completely dull by the time I started shaving the other side.

What was in that can, dehydrated water? I had the pile o' spent blades in my wall when I remodeled my bath. I was considering cutting a slot in the back of my new medicine cabinet, but then remembered that I re-plumed with pex pipe. Probably not a huge danger, but it kind of seems like keeping the blades away from plastic tubing is good practice.
