Hey guys. Just wanted to say that I got this. I’m about to complete module 1 and this course is worth every penny. The tools and resources provided to practice help a lot and she goes slow enough that you really get the idea behind the sign. Also the insights provided into Deaf culture were really amazing as well. My skills have greatly improved in just the short time I have spent. This is definitely a course that’s dependent on how much you put in. I already know that if I stick with it I will be able to hold a conversation and will have a firm foundation to build the rest of my ASL skills on. Thank you Meredith for doing this for us.

THANK YOU So much for sharing your experience in the course so far! I'm absolutely thrilled that you're finding it so valuable and already see your skills improving. Way to go!!! Yes - you'll get out what you put in, as always. I'm so glad you're putting in the effort to truly learn and begin conversing in ASL. Thanks again for the positive review :) it means so much to know you're learning.

Thanks so much for this! Might be a dumb question, but how do you sign 'hair' if someone has no hair to pinch? Like a bald person?

Good question! A bald person would sign HAIR the same way - by pinching near the scalp.

Hello Meredith. I have been watching your ASL Videos to self teach so I can communicate with my dental patients... I was wondering if you have any videos about dental? I am looking for 1 video that can give me the most ASL in the office rather than go from video to video. If not any recommendations? Some words I'd like to see in 1 video toothbrush, toothpaste, toothache, pain, Allergies, Medical Problems, heart problems, artificial joints, blood thinning medication, Blood Pressure, Take Medications, the drill, lots of water, filling, white filling, silver filling, root canal, crown, extraction, cleaning, gum disease, plaque, calculus, make appointment, payment, anesthesia, topical gel, suction, vibration, you have questions, decay, fractured tooth, nerve, ... Thank you!

This is a weird request but I work in a pharmacy, I'm trying to learn some basic ASL because we have about 10 deaf patients and with COVID, we are not allowed to remove our masks so they can read our lips (Most of our patients can read lips who are deaf) could you do a video on basic communication like we don't have your medication, what are you looking for, what is your full name and date of birth, how to sign medications? And so on?

Hi Kevin, thanks for your message! Glad you're learning sign language to communicate with your friends in Thailand. As a tip - while it's very possible they know ASL (by traveling, or by watching videos online), ASL is *American* Sign Language, and it's likely they use a version of Thai Sign Language, so be prepared to learn their language if needed!

Correct, you'd display/wiggle your fingers for FINGERS, point to your nails, wrists. Fingerspell "toe" or "ankle" ( and then if/as needed either point downward or use your non-dominant hand to act as your 'foot' and point toward the toe in question, or describe what's going on with the ankle)

@ASLMeredith
@ASLMeredith 5 жыл бұрын
Great question! It does matter that you're *consistent* (don't switch back and forth between hands), but otherwise you generally use your dominant hand for most key movements. (Example: I'm right-handed, so I use my right hand for most key movements and any one-handed signs.) I answer this exact question in more detail at aslmeredith.com/faq so feel free to check that out for more info!
