You've quite likely heard this cello suite many times before, but did you know it can be played note-for-note on the guitar?
In this lesson we'll go in depth and learn how to play each note.

it took me 2 months ... many times i thought it's too hard for me and gave it up for a while... but somehow during this pandemic I got it all. I can't possibly thank you enough for this tutorial. this was the most fun i ever had playing guitar.

Someone has kindly pointed out that I forgot to mention in the intro that it's in Drop D, please take note; the low E string is tuned down to D.

Thank you so much, these are great tutorials. Just one suggestion: I wish the videos start with the whole piece played in normal tempo. This way, we can have a better understanding of the song. Also, we can go back and listen to the part we study within the song.

Hi Turker, thanks for your note! Most (but not all) videos have an accompanying "performance" video; this lets separate the two which is great because I can teach the lesson first and still take my time preparing the performance. It also saves time on longer lesson videos to put the performance in a separate video. At hubguitar.com/repertoire, each page will show both the performance and lesson version where applicable. Thanks so much for watching!

souvent bach joue de l'ambiguité entre la rythmique ternaire et binaire..... but i didn't play this part yet , but in another piece i've resolved certains phrases by the rythm in it , few time in late and it's sound well , i remember a lesson in philarmonic institute the maestro talk about a piece a show how the rythm of arpegio's are différent .... xcuse my poor langage and thx to your so great work !!

kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKnTg4ijfZaZi7s. But I don’t even have the ending figured out, easily the coolest part. Grey, you are the man. I saw a video of you yesterday where you were bending a lot of harmonics and using percussive techniques on the body. That was absolutely amazing. I mean you are a world class player, what you played was very next level modern acoustic guitarist. Going to try to find it and listen to it more. Maybe someday I’ll try to learn some insane stuff like that.

Aww, thanks man! I hope to live up to that compliment someday. The song is Akaskero by Thomas Leeb, you should check it out! I have a lesson coming out on it, but he also has the tab and a video lesson available for sale on his website that go way more in-depth than I do in my lesson!

Hub Guitar I don’t always enjoy percussion on the body of the guitar and strings as much but I think that piece utilizes it in the perfect way to me. I have always meant to learn a little bit of it I look forward to that lesson on akaskero. Still need to learn this cello suite in d here.

You makes some good tutorials, however it pains me to see Bach in tabs, so much is lost in the translation. Maybe you can do some notation tutorials for guitarist. :) :)
@HubGuitar
@HubGuitar 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Yes, I agree that notation is important. Of course I've had to make some difficult decisions about how to share these lessons with others. The decision to use tabs only for the lesson videos was not an easy one, but in the end I believe it will help give more people a chance to play this music. I do have some sight reading / notation lessons on my website, and it's an area I am looking forward to expanding considerably. Right now I have ~255 sight reading exercises I'm working on. :) Thanks for the comment, the support, and the suggestions. - Grey

G is the second open string on Cello, so using open D on Guitar is the same strategy with an open string to pivot around.

Sorry but this sucks he isnt playing a classical guitar, it sounds so tangy, and I honestly dont understand how you can play the full song limiting yourself to picking. You need to let the notes flow and picking stops the vibrations. This is for people who want to play the song for clout and not show any real technique that will make this easier for you. You need classical techniques to play this correctly and in full force.
@HubGuitar

Wow! What a rough review. Steel-string guitar players can play classical repertoire, too. Sorry if you disagree. I guess this channel isn't for you, but I'm sure there are many that will suit your needs.

The point about classical vs western guitar is completely up to taste. I much prefer the sound of western guitar. About the picking: the notes are sounding, whether you sustain them with a bow as on a cello or let the natural sustain of the guitar do its work. Of course it isn't the same, nobody claimed it was. This wouldn't be different on a classical guitar either.
