This is the best video lesson i've ever seen. I play bass 20years and i'm impressed of the perfect analysis of the study. I would like to have these lessons in my begginings. Congratulations.

Very calm in tone of voice in explaining and teaching. Goes directly to the point. No mumble, jumble. One of the best bass instructor, thus far. No five or six string basses. The typical 4 strings to teach beginners, unlike many others to try and onto impress. Great job! As always, and professional. 🤙🏽

As a beginner, i had gained a lot of knowledge to be able to play bass but what was missing was practice, I Personally learned a lot watching your videos and using more efforts in practicing different hand techniques and this has given me more ideas to create music on my own using the broken chord, arpeggio, triad and major 7, thanks a lot for sharing the videos. it's fun:) watching and a lot of learning.

Your a great teacher. Students listen to his instruction: If by the end of this video you aren't playing as fast and as good as him just KEEP practicing it. Move on to the next video when you're that good. It can take a few days to build the muscle memory and thats OK

The skipping in thirds scale took me awhile to get my head around. To any newbies like me this is what I worked out: Since D E A and B are minor chords (for all intents and purposes) in the key of C they have a flattened minor third, that is their third is a semi tone, or one fret down. So that's why the finger pattern is different for them compared to C F G where they are where you'd expect your third to be. So you end up playing C-E (E third of C major) D-F (F being D's minor 3rd) etc. If you were like me for a while you were confused as to why D's third wasn't F#. It makes sense that the thirds all fall onto the C Major scale (F# isn't). What came first, the scale or the chords? Chicken or the egg. Who knows. Thanks for breaking this dumb drummers brain. :P

Hi Richie I am liking all your content and style 👍 I am writing and drawing fretboard as you go along. It takes me a while to memorise and have found that some days my plucking fingers glide over the strings...when I know where I'm going but other times I am uncertain so they are going to start flapping. That saying by the late,great, Jaco Pastorius is great advice...I think it's probably a rookie error to try to emulate the pros' speed...nail it first then gradually speed up ! I'm enjoying it...thanks again. For a beginner Richie...is it best to work in the order of your lessons as they appear ? I am in a habit of flirting around and becoming like a headless chicken. I think I need to be more patient and nail each one before moving on ! Not a problem though as your concise teaching is nice to follow. Do you have any lessons on reading music as in most cases it is a jumble of stuff that looks intimidating. I think first to concentrate on these lessons to get the basics. Also, I have not decided whether to only rest my thumb ...like you...on the E strig...it's starting to feel good....but sometimes I find it's gone down onto the A string...at first. I was then resting lower onto the D. When Iwas resting down alternatively, Iwas still hitting the wrong string......your way...less so ! Something Iwill have to commit to ✊ cheers.

Could you explain what is meant by skipping thirds?
@danielsokolski75274 жыл бұрын
Skipping thirds, Skipping means you play notes that are not directly next to each other,usually with one not in between. The third is the interval (or distance) between all the skips

Narrated Abu 'Amir or Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari: that he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, "From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful. And there will be some people who will stay near the side of a mountain and in the evening their shepherd will come to them with their sheep and ask them for something, but they will say to him, 'Return to us tomorrow.' Allah will destroy them during the night and will let the mountain fall on them, and He will transform the rest of them into monkeys and pigs and they will remain so till the Day of Resurrection."

I like the Skipping in Thirds exercise, but am confused. If you are playing up the Major Scale using the Root and the Third, then why are you playing F and G for the thirds of the D and E roots respectively? Shouldn't you be playing the F# and G# as they are the thirds, right? Sorry, but I'm a noooobie.
@frankenstien69258 жыл бұрын
I assume he's skipping with the thirds using only the notes on the C major scale, so no sharps or flats.
