Learn CAD Sketcher | 15 | Lofting Through Multiple Sketches on Custom Planes | Blender 3D

We look at how we can use Blender CAD sketcher to loft through multiple sketches that make up the profiles of a boat shape. We learn how to position multiple custom planes in Blender 3D and create and copy of one sketch across each plane to make the profiles / cross sections of the loft. We will learn explorer the process of lofting through these.

Wouldn't a mirror and an array modifier make more sense? So that you only have to design the right or left side.

Thanks for this tutorial! Is there any advantage of using CAD sketcher over traditional CAD software? I have some Blender knowledge, so I feel like it would be easier to start with this add-on, than totally from scratch with CAD software. But at the same time, I'm afraid of learning a new workflow in Blender that would be lacking of important feature, in comparison to a complete CAD package.

CAD sketcher is a work around for anyone who wants the parametric sketching part in Blender. It has, in my mind, no advantages over a traditional CAD package like freecad which I teach over on mangojelly solutions. CAD sketcher just makes it easier for anyone who wants to stay with blender. For a far better CAD experience use a CAD package as you will get parametric workflows. Direct modelling stick with blender, parametric use something like freecad. Two together are awesome weapons in any designers arsenal.

​@@MJ3D_Blender ​ Knowing that you have a good knowledge of both, do you think that the current state of CAD sketcher allows you to create anything you'd like? I have in mind to use CAD sketcher whenever I need small mechanical/functional pieces when 3D printing. Because, when you need to do modifications for precisions, poly modeling can be really tedious.... I'll check your other channel. Thanks for your reply!
