Self learning for about 2 years, I think I am half way through an HSK3 level. Apart from some new vocabulary, I could understand a lot of it, but still there were expressions I had not seen before like using 等等 for "and so on". I also had not seen 上面写着 as a sentence structure before. I knew the individual words but it's useful to memorize it as a structure.

It's good to know 手叉腰 for "hands on the waist". Actually, I usually say "hands on the hips". But that probably still translates as 手叉腰. Strict translation as 手叉髋骨 is probably not used.

Thank you for the lesson! And I have a question (4:42) 然后我也戴眼镜 Is it ok not to use 着 here? Because there is "daizhe" in pinyin. Or both are ok?

Yes! Both are ok, “我戴着眼镜” refers to the state I had in the photo (I was wearing glasses), “我戴眼镜” indicates the fact that “I wear glasses”

Hi, in these sentences... 他们是1949年出生的。 Can we also say this?: 他们1949年出生。 头发是黑色的 Can we also just say this?: 头发黑色 And this one is really confusing: 我也是短头发。 Is this the same as this?: 我也是短头发的。 I often can't tell when 是 的 is required or when it's only for emphasis.

I think that 他们1949年出生 describes the action 出生. But 他们是1949年出生的 describes the people 他们. I think that using 是 的 is the better way to say this. … I think that 头发黑色 is incorrect. We are taught that 是 is not used with predicate adjectives. However, I think that for colours (and some other adjectives) 是 的 must be used. So 头发是黑色的 is the correct expression … I think that 我也是短头发 really should be 我也是短头发的. This is short for 我也是 (一个带) 短头发的 (人) I think that 是 的 should be used, but the elements in brackets are usually omitted.
