Good content but way too fast, for some steps the video is sped up so I can't see what's going on even when slowed to 0.25 speed. Am still stuck on trying the get the cloth to collide with the sphere without falling through or the sphere falling as well as the cloth. This is all in the first minute of video and I have spent 10mins trying to work it out so far.

Thanks for this amazing tutorial. Can this be use to make a cloth knot too ?
@lewisanimation2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! :) I haven't tried it for making a knot, if the knot is already tied it may be easier to sculpt the knot as a mesh then attach the simulated cloth to it. I'm not sure how possible making a simulated knot would be as it would be a much more complex collision
@TheEmptyHoliness2 жыл бұрын
An above average youtube tutorial! Thank you! Have you considered animating the deceleration curve while catching? Like animate the hook to match the speed of the cloth, catch it with the moving hook, and then slow down to get a more natural look.
@lewisanimation Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the tutorial! And thank you for the suggestion! I think that could work quite well, I believe I was creating this for animations where the cloth needs to stop more suddenly like someone catching it, but if a smoother motion is needed then decelerating the empty absolutely I think could work! :)

hey ! I have come across a problem and i can't seem to figure out how to do it. I have a character with rigged clothing with cloth sim attached and i tried to use the video to add hooks to control the cloth but when i animate the character the clothes break and the bone rigged cloth and the hooked cloth move in different directions and not as intended. Do you know how to solve this...? Thank you so much...!
@lewisanimation2 жыл бұрын
I unfortunately haven't looked into using the cloth sims specifically for clothes so I'm not sure I have any solutions. Possibly make sure the modifiers are stacked in the right order as that can cause problems. Other than that I'm not too sure what the problem could be
@dioib Жыл бұрын
Dear Lewis, thanks for such great video! I am having some trouble, I follow along added pin and pin controls without problem, but when I try to keyframe the hook empty, the pinned vertices follows and the mesh is deformed in a very strange way. Could you please advice how I can keyframe those controls like you and simulated the cloth correctly? Thanks in advance!

For Stage 5 about catching the cloth, Select both empty and Cloth, the go to Edit mode, Select the vertex, and press ctrl P to parent Empty to vertex, then as the simulation goes the empty will follow that vertex so you don't need to animate the Empty. Hope this Helps, I just tried it out and it works
@lewisanimation2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment! I've tried it and it seems potentially like a really cool option to use. I haven't tested it enough to see how well it works with other animations and pins but it's certainly something I'll look into!

Im pretty late and a bit lost at baking, should I bake at every changes and do them before the simulation or at the end after the simulation done? That aside, the video really helpful especially the drop and catch one.
@lewisanimation Жыл бұрын
The cloth sims can play in real time in the viewport when you press play, but the more complex the sim the more this slows down, so baking allows you to save the sim so you can view it in real time and it just repeats this saved sim. So you would need to bake the sim again each time if you want to make changes, but you don't need to if it's a simple cloth sim that runs smoothly in the viewport already
