Ahoj! Děkuju mnohorát Veronica! J'sem česky, a when I was little, my family lived in česka republica. I was able to speak the language when I was there and was 5 years old. Then we moved back and I forgot how to speak after a year :( We went back to visit family there, except I forgot completely except for a few basics. I'm learning again so that when we go again I can remember most of what I forgot. These videos help me remember so much! Again, Děkuju!

Surprised how close Czech is to Russian. But the tragedy with both Polish and Czech is that there was already an alphabet created specifically for Slavic phonemes, the Cyrillic alphabet. The Roman Catholic administration in those countries forced the use of the Latin alphabet, and the Latin alphabet simply does not have the orthographic capabilities of capturing the Slavic phonology without all kinds of diacritics, jammed-together consonant clusters, and the like. I am a native speaker of English and learned Russian as an adult... and I >> LOVE

Interesting that in some dialects of Chakavian language (very archaic, not standardised but in original form hugely different from standard Croatian which is based on more eastern Shtokavian dialect), spoken on Istrian peninsula, phrase "You are welcome." is said "ne ni zoč." or alternatively "ne ni zoč" and thus very similar to a Czech form. And we also say "prosin" universally meaning "please" or "to beg". Kedar nojden lazno i premoženie, ontrat se nodijan obiskat Češku por dni.

Have a question. Some textbooks use Dekuji instead of Dekuju. Why is there a difference? Thanks
@amaemiamaen689310 жыл бұрын
"Děkuji" is grammatically correct, "děkuju" is most used.
@Johnsmith-ux4jw10 жыл бұрын
Hello Javier, the difference between ''děkuji'' a ''děkuju'' is following... ''děkuji'' is a written form, ''děkuju'' is a spoken form. In standard Czech spoken language, we don't usually say ''děkuji'', but If someone wants to sound very polite even in spoken Czech when thanking to somebody, he/she can use děkuji. Having said all that, standard Czech language is mainly spoken in the central Czech Republic, west and north part. There are some dialects in the Czech language that are using ''děkuji'' as their usual way of speaking. You can come across these particularly in the Moravian part of the Czech Republic. I hope this explains your question fully. Wishing you a good learning progress and don't hesitate to ask more questions should you have some. Hanka team CzechClass101.com

It's not correct. Děkuji is formal and děkuju is informal. There is no difference in speaking or written form, it's just about those words being formal and informal. It's pretty stupid to teach foreigners the informal way.

Anat de Graaf však i češi (jakože čechy, ne morava) řikaj "děkuji"... akorát je to spisovný narozdíl od "děkuju". Například nedokážu si představit říct učitelce "děkuju" a ne "děkuji" :D

@Nativtexan26 жыл бұрын
So do you pronounce the d and roll it into the y like d-yeh? My issue is I can't find anything that can show how to phonetically pronounce these words. So what I think I'm hearing and seeing looks different on some of these words. So like with Dekuju I see a D but I'm hearing a Y sound. I just want to get it right from the start and not learn bad pronunciation.

What's the difference between Dekuji moc and Dekuju moc??
@Czechclass1018 жыл бұрын
+Kk Mim Hello, thank you for your question. The difference is the following. Děkuji is written and formal form, used in written formal emails, or in spoken formal Czech. Děkuju is informal, used on day to day basis in spoken Czech, with friends, in shops, in restaurants, in the street, when writing emails or texting informally with people you know (relatives, friends, acquaintances etc.) I hope this is helpful to you. Good luck with your learning :) Sincerely Hanka Team CzechClass101.com

Hello, Thank you for your question. ''děkuji mnohokrát'' simply means ''thank you very much''. ''Mnohokrát" literally means "many times". Unlike in English, this term can be expressed in one word in the Czech language. Have a good day and all the best with your studying :) Hanka Team CzechClass101.com

@killmurder64796 жыл бұрын
Hi dude, may you tell me what "se, na" mean in this context - "Jsem jediná kdo je čech a dívá se na to."?
@AGEntMLICNak6 жыл бұрын
Well, this is kind of complicated to explain. The literal translation would be something like: "Am I the only one who is a Czech and is watching this?" The verb "se" is a special type of a verb, it's called "zvratné sloveso" (sloveso = verb). It's quite similar to english: modlit se = to pray, těšit se = to look forward to, vzdát se = to surrender, and of course dívat se = to watch/to look. However, you can't use the word "se" with every other verb, it would have different meaning or it just doesn't make sense. So, to answer you question, "dívat se" means "to watch/to look" and "na" means "on". Let me show you one more example: "Dívám se na film" means "I'm watching a movie". Hope I'm helpful to you, somehow :)
