What a diff between this and when you play lead with MindCell lol. Shows your love for the instrument. It might be in another vid, but briefly describe your progression in guitar? Were you always into metal, or did/do you progress through diff genres? Myself, I go from one genre to another, sometimes weekly, I guess depending on what life is throwing my way. Sing an octave lower. If that is too low, use a capo. Move the capo up one fret at a time until you find the key that is most comfortable for you.

Newby with 7,8,9 chords or so learned..so at 10:25 ,oohs n ahhs, you say to play a E7 with 020100 fingering...But my "Silvertone Chord Starter Guide" shows E7 as 022130. I find the Silvertone fingering (mentally) easier, because I just hold a basic E and add my pinky to the 3rd fret 2nd string. So the question is whether the 020100 fingering is the actual note in the song (regardless of what we call it), or if you're just showing an alternate fingering? It does sound a little different but MY ear will probably never tell the difference within the song. BTW Thanks for what you do. This song was in my head, and I thought: Yah that's a song everyone knows, and if I could play that at a campfire...So this is the FIRST song I'm actually learning from start to finish. Been practicing chords and chord changes (on and off) like D,C,G,A,E etc, and I'm astonished I could play this song almost from the first try. I've recently come to the mindset that the "original artists" starting out maybe weren't all that polished either (but of course, Winwood was a child prodigy) so maybe their earlier stuff isn't that hard to play. And also, why would anyone want to write a song that's hard to play? So "Gloria" is another one I'm fooling around with. Rambling on, It's awesome that this was posted some 3 yrs ago, before I even picked up a guitar, and hopefully will be here 30 yrs from now. -tx

Regarding your question - there are many different ways to finger and voice the same chord. Like you mentioned a few ways to play an open E7 chord. They are both correct as they have all the notes in an E7 chord but they all have a slightly different tambre. Which one you use depends on what sound you want and also what chord you are going to next as some chords make it easier to transition to the next chord in the progression. Thats one of the many killer things about guitar - you have all these wonderful choices. Keep up all that hard work on that guitar and keep having fun with it. Not trying to be a douche, but I`ve seen several people teaching this song on line WRONG! The second note of the lick or riff is NOT a G. It`s an F#. If you don`t believe me, then you need to actually listen to the recording. Or better yet, watch Winwood play it!!

G sounds right to me. I usually play acoustic in Eb, but the G note gives the right amount of contrast after the E note. Now I'm not trying to sound like a douche but this song is three chords plus a very simple riff. It shouldn't take anywhere close to 16 minutes to teach it.
