Steve Winwood accomplished more in the music industry before the age of 25 than most musicians do in a lifetime. Multiple instruments, multiple groups, distinctive vocals, enduring songs like Gimme Some Lovin', 'Im A Man', 'Keep On Runnin', ' Dear Mr. Fantasy', 'Can't Find My Way Home', 'Low Spark'. He was fronting Spencer Davis at the age of 15 in 1963 and able to stay focused and relatively sober to today...a truly remarkable career.

How can anyone not LOVE this? It's always been a favorite along with "Can't Find My Way Home." Two of their best in my opinion.
@jw66jw21 күн бұрын
They are great songs, but Can't Find My Way Home was actually a Blind Faith tune, done when Winwood was on "leave" from Traffic and playing with Clapton in the short lived aforementioned Blind Faith. Interestingly when Winwood rejoined his bros in Traffic they did some of their best and musically most diverse work: John Barleycorn and also Low Spark. You are correct though, impossible not to love this late Sixties early Seventies Brit stuff, at the same time The Who were doing Tommy and Peter Green was still in the original Fleetwood Mac, and of course the Stones were doing: Wild Horses, Gimmie Shelter, and Midnight Rambler. Take care.

He had one hand on the Hammond keys. The other hand was playing another keyboard run while both feet were playing bass pedal, and he sang into the mic as well. Never missed a note and made it so easy. To know he wrote I'm A Man and Gimme Some Loving at age 15 is truly astounding!.

I live on Maui, and i worked for six years at Bounty Music. Dave Mason comes in from time to time. I hate to say it, but I knew nothing about this band, (I’m almost 40 now). My older coworkers would tell me he was in the band “Traffic” and is a legend. I looked up the band and realized they were the ones who played this song, and I’ve heard it from time to time on the radio, and always loved it. The next time I saw Dave, I told him that I didn’t know you guys wrote that song, and he being the gentleman he is, decided to give me a quick guitar lesson of a his preferred different version of this song, that was in a minor key. I’m grateful for the lesson, but honestly, I like this version a lot more.

That dude on tambourine is Mr. Jim Capaldi, founding member of the original Traffic band. He played the drums & was a singer/songwriter. Mr. Capaldi passed away almost 20yrs ago. During the 70's session drummer(Derick & the Dominoes, etc.) Jim Gordon joined Traffic & took over the drumming duties. Sadly, he also has passed. Another great drummer. The 60's with all of it's turmoil gave us some of the greatest music of all time. The music was made by true musicians and will forever stand the test of time. I was born in the late 60's but was fortunate enough to have older siblings that introduced me to the music and I in turn introduced it to my younger family who has continued the cycle.

There is no one playing “true” music anymore. I don’t understand “music” today. Where are the guitarists, bass players, drummers, keyboardists, percussionists...as in the “days of old”? My old!!! 60s-early 90s.
@julieraymond4823 жыл бұрын
Wondering the same thing.Now,nobody KNOWS music anymore.It is just machines being operated by a computer geek or something now Then ,it was people who went to school to learn to be musicians,or learned at home from family..Not anymore,sadly.

Same here. I didn't discover this until the internet. This wasn't allowed on the radio (at least not in my state). There was a ban on anything considered to be acid rock. This is why artist would lie; when it wasn't so obvious like dear mr fantasy.

1974 (I think) New Haven Coliseum, New Haven, Connecticut. I was fortunate enough to see traffic. I remember when John Barleycorn was played, you could hear a pin drop, the audience was so quiet. Best tambourine ever! One of my top ten favorite songs. When music wasn't dictated by the labels and every band had a unique sound.
