I tried to study English or I tried studying English? What is the difference in meaning? This is something that is asked a lot on tests! In this grammar lesson, I look at the verb "try", and will teach you when it should be followed by a gerund or an infinitive. The meaning of "I tried to watch the movie." is not the same as "I tried watching the movie." Watch this lesson and find out why.

I am a Taiwanese English teacher. (我是一個台灣的英文老師) The reason why my English is so good in comparsion with most of my fellow Taiwanese is that I have been constantly learning and practicing English. (我英文能力之所以比其他台灣大多數同胞來得強是因為我不間斷地學習與練習英文) Hopefully the average Emglish ability level for Taiwanese can improve a lot in the very near future. (希望台灣的平均英語實力能在不久的將來大大地進步) I have finished watching this video completely. (我已經完整地看完了這個影片) This video is awesome!!!! (這個影片棒呆了!!!) It is bloody useful!! (真是夭壽實用!!!) Big thanks to the teacher and all the fellow students around the world. (大大地感謝老師與所有其他國籍的學生)

This video is really clear and make sense when applied to examples. I was curious how was I taught by English teacher when I was in middle school, and searched the Chinese Website in order to see how they explain the difference; the results turned out inadequate and kinda misleading! I feel happy to watch this and will be able to explain to my students next time!

Hello Alan, lo siguiente es una corrección constructiva. Una vez, una profa de Inglés nos contó que sus estudiantes le dijeron: "I love you too much". Ella comentó que entiende lo que tratamos de decir pero lo mejor sería: " I love you so much." Ya que el "too" en este caso suena como si amaremos a alguien más de lo que deseamos pero de forma negativa. Saludos

Try not to be late. Why not Try not being late?
@farmduck2762
@farmduck2762 7 жыл бұрын
The main difference is the tone. The first one means we have a strict schedule and can't wait for you. The second one implies you are always late so try something different for a change. The first one is neutral in tone but the second one is a bit critical or sarcastic.

Yeahhhhhhhhh you're right! I'd say, the more I study, the even more I should study! Damn, english is an easy language when you start to study it but it becomes really hard if you really want to be fluent. Somewhere I read something like that : "English is like the Everest. When you start climbing it, you only find sweet hills, but the more you get close to the top, the more you find steep slopes". I think it's the most precise english definition !
