If I'm not wrong Kevin, I think there's another meaning for "hold up" and that is "to delay". - Well, "to hold up" has several meanings according to several dictionaries I consulted but I think "to delay", "to rob", "to wait" and "to hold something with your hands" are the most used ones.

Different simply means something is not similar, but distinctive or distinct also imply that something stands out....

I'm not Kevin but if you allow me: - "DISTINCT": different in nature from something else of a similar type. Example: - "The smell of the homemade food is DISTINCT from food in a restaurant". - "DISTINCTIVE" special characteristic of a person or thing so you can tell them apart from others, I mean, from other people or things. Example: - "Garlic gives that food its DISTINCTIVE flavor". - "Honesty makes him distinctive from the others". I hope I helped you a little bit. Thanks for reading my comment.
