This is a simple beginner F2L tutorial for the 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube CFOP method. You can learn how to solve the first 2 layers fast and intuitively in a way that is easy to understand, in just 6 minutes! There is a full example F2L at the end.
After F2L:

Beginner PLL ► • Rubik's Cube: Easy 2-L...
If you're stuck ► Check 4:37 for special cases.

► SUMMARY OF STEPS
1. Put the corner and edge in the top layer. (if they are touching, you might have a special case: see 4:37)
2. Is the white sticker is facing up?
- White sticker NOT facing up:
3. Place the corner above the slot, turn the top so you can still see the white sticker.
4. If the top colors for each piece is the same, turn the corner away and move the edge beside the corner. If they don't match, move the edge across from the corner.
5. Insert the pair.
- White sticker facing up:
3. Match the edge piece to its center.
4. Turn edge away and place the corner on top of the edge.
5. Insert the pair.

1:13 - White sticker not facing up, corner/edge top stickers match
2:55 - White sticker not facing up, corner/edge top stickers don't match

If you're trying to solve an F2L pair but you don't think the rules are working, you might have a special case. See 4:37 for special cases.

Hey Dylan! I have been cubing for four years. Due to my ADHD and autism I tend to process things slower, so I often need slower explanations. I revisited this video after about 3 years, a bit skeptical because of how short it was. I have been a long time Petrus user but I just haven’t gotten fast enough and still average 30-40 seconds. I tried this tutorial when I was 12 after cubing for about a year and averaging about a minute and 15 seconds. I had a very hard time understanding since it was fast and I had difficulty retaining the information. Now I’m 15 years old and revisited this video. I cannot thank you enough for this video. I’m learning CFOP and mastered 2 look OLL and 1 look PLL. I am very thankful for this video now that I understand it. You also taught me how to solve the 5x5 when I was 11. Thank you for all that you do. Your cubing tutorials are amazing. Short, sweet, and straight to the point. Usually I need slower videos, but all the slow ones here are poor quality. However this one here: As I said, short, sweet, and straight to the point. No BS. Love your stuff, dude! Hello from the USA! -Emma T.

I just started cubing and I tried to learn F2L. I watched this video like 10 times, following it step by step, but then when I actually tried it by myself I was so lost. 1 thing that really helped me was just trying to play around with a cube, not looking at a video to solve it for me, something like a trial and error and it helped me so much. I actually realized how different cubes moves with that algorithms and what I am propably doing wrong and then it just clicked. And as someone mentioned, give it a time, take breakes and dont think about it, when you come back to it, it will be much more clear. And of course thanks for awesome tutorial :)

I felt the same. Something that might help is just looking at the cube after the cross. Literally move pieces around to see how it affects other pieces and sides, basically just play around with it. That's what I'm doing and trying to get to where he is without help. It makes you think and also will help you learn the cube. I still haven't got this down, but this process has helped me to understand placement.

I watched this video maybe 3-4 days ago (never having learned F2L before) and really had no clue what was going on and had a really hard time retaining any of the material without blindly following along with the video. 3 days later, I'm watching this again and everything makes a lot more sense! Just an encouragement to anyone who's watching the video for the first time and is feeling overwhelmed by F2L. Keep working at it and come back in a little while to watch this again after giving your brain a chance to process it (in active practice, as you go about your day, as you sleep, etc). It will make more sense with time and practice!

wow, coming back here after cubing for about year is pretty cool. i remember watching this video for the first time and thinking it was absolutely fascinating. it was so exciting applying these F2L tricks in my solves and feeling super cool. it used to take me almost 3 minutes to solve the cube, but every solve was a blast. now i'm sub 30, hunting for new F2L tricks to get even faster, and i still love cubing as much as i did on day 1. and of course i'm searching for new tricks in j perm's videos, who's taught me almost everything i know about cubing, and watching anyone else's videos just feels kinda weird. if you're a new cuber learning F2L for the first time, i wish you an awesome journey!

*To Beginners, this might seem all confusing in the beginning. But the way to learn is....* 1) Solve the cross first. Don't try to understand or remember all instructions at once. Learn one case and one step at a time. 2) Choose one slot (corner & edge) to solve first and then skip to the part of the video that matches your particular slot's case (ex: White to side & Color Match or White to side & color does not match etc) and then solve that particular slot you chose using the video instructions. 3) After it is solved then choose the next slot and skip to the part of the video that matches your particular slot's case and then solve that slot. 4) Continue doing this multiple times as you completely solve both layers (F2L) and try to remember what you are doing to solve each case. 5) Repeat this for many times with the help of the video's instructions. And as you get to remember the instructions. 5) Then practice solving it on your own. Always refer back to the Video when you are in doubt. Trust Me, you can master F2L in a few hours if you understand & remember what to do for each case including the special cases. *The key is to NOT GIVE UP.*

Why do i have some special cases that are not in the video one of them is that when the white corner faces up and i put the edge on top on the center that is on the front of the edge and put it to the side and i put the corner on that edge but the corner is flipped. And another one is that when i face the corner to the slot that it needs to go to and move it so i can still see the white corner i place my finger parallel to the white corner and the edge is not in the place its supposed to be in. Can you help me because this video would have been perfect for me to do f2l

Now I’m solving my F2L so fast and haven’t learned any new algos since beginner method. This was the glue, now I’m excited to memorize algos and intuitively solve cubes faster! Excellent video, still holds golden! 😁

It really helped me to realize that putting in a "matching" pair (with colors on the same side) requires inverse sexy move (eg. U R U' R') and pairs that don't match uses normal sexy move (L' U L) And it helped me get faster by remembering I always need to look at the white face, and then turn it away before inserting the pair

Excellent. The key concepts for beginners are: 1) keep the corner and edge piece separate, that way you can manuever them to fit together correctly and slot it into the cross. 2) for the last slotting make sure you don't mess up the other colors, so position it using the unsolved slot.

I watched this two days ago and was lost, but the story ends well! I'm brand new to cubing and was trying to get under a minute with beginner method and just cracked 58 seconds with a lucky easy solve. I just didn't not understand this video so went searching for others. I still didn't get it. So I went back to the cube and tried to just work it out for myself. After some solo wins I came back to this video and with some more time with my cube trying all this out I finally understand what everyone's been saying about F2L. Well F2L Is A Pretty Complicated Concept But Believe Me The Best Place To Learn It Is This Video, Others Vids will not explain anything intuitively but just Memorize as Algorithms. You Just Have To Keep Trying And Practicing As It Is A Really Harf Concept To Grasp, What I Used To Do When Learning F2L Is Scramble The Cube, Solve Cross And Then Choose any one F2L Pair, Find The Corresponding Pieces And Get To The Part In The Video Where That Particular Case Is Explained, Then Watch A Bit, Pause, Do That Step, Watch A Bit More, Proceed like that

I've never been able to relate to a comment so much in my life... I've watched it twice. The first time I actually managed to solve using these techniques, though not in any reasonable amount of time... But now it feels like my brain is going to turn to mush...

We all learn differently, don't despair. Try different ways to take in the information. I was struggling with the terminology and the speed of some of these videos, but I turned off the sound and was able to follow the moves by eye and I was able to work with the moves in real time as I wasn't trying to decode and understand and make the moves. Happy days! I managed to complete the cube successfully.

You produce such amazing content! I have been watching this F2L video over and over at .5 and .75 speed so I can follow along and get faster at solving the 3x3. One observation I made is that when the video is slowed down, it sounds like you're intoxicated while explaining F2L. Also, I looked intoxicated when I first tried to follow along, =) Thank you for helping me solve my 3x3 cube and advance beyond the beginner method!
