Love the noodle example Justin. Consider it stolen! 😉 Love the way you pass the details while kicking during the intro. Great, clear, simple info. Nice demos Sabera!

Thank you Perry, I learned some of that positive demonstrativeness from your videos as well! And I hope the adults will take a liking to getting to use the noodle!

Love your black speedos. Speedos i my opinion are the best way to swim. They are tight fitting and comfortable and never drag in the water like shorts do. Shorts come down a man's bottom and reveal a builders cracking. I wear speedos in the pool and on the beach . I have loads of different pairs and different colours. This training video is amazing. I'm going to try out his instructions tomorrow when I get to the leisure centre.

I asked a more advanced swimmer what she was going to do as an exercise today and she said, "I'm gonna do black line work." All of a sudden that made total sense in learning how to swim straight like a pencil instead of like a snake. I look forward to getting better at working on the weakest part of my freestyle stroke...the kick...Thanks

Of course! I’m glad it was able to perhaps clear things up for you! The most important thing you can do is maintain a relaxed flow with loose, purposeful legs. As always, thanks for joining along with us :)

We sincerely appreciate your kindness! Here at Sigma, our goal is to do just that - give you an opportunity to learn and improve in an activity that may be completely foreign to you! We're so glad that the videos have helped thus far, and we look forward to having you follow along as we continue to build and learn together :)

Hi, can you link any videos on doing any dryland drills or swimming drills to be able to kick from hips/glutes. I either go to loose or too tight and m just kicking in one place n can never move fwd using kickboard - so m jus swimming with my arm movement. Needless to say its been exhausting. Its been 2 months swimming with 0 movement. My instructor doesn't teaches anything so will be glad to have some specific videos on improving this. My legs also sink super fast

Hmmm tough question without seeing what's going on. But a few things we recommend are: 1) Kicking vertically in the deep end. Hold onto the wall, keeping your chin above the water. By kicking this way, you'll be able to have a better sense as to what's going wrong. 2) Flutter kicking on your back on land. This traditional core workout can be great to develop your core strength as well as the hip strength you need to kick through the water. 3) Kick with fins. Kicking with fins will help you actually move forward to give you some confidence in the water as well as helps develop the strength in your hips for when you take the fins off. Hope these help!

Well, mostly good. I always try to note the difference between sprinting kicking and distance kicking. Much more splashing/boiling water with the sprints. You should also go a bit pigeon toed for flutter kick and dolphin kick. Gives you a bit more plantar flexion along with being able to use the whole side of your foot rather than just the toes. Ditch the kick board as soon as possible and use a snorkel. Kickboards promote bad body posture. My favorite stroke is the over arm side stroke, and I dropped the scissor kick in favor of the flutter kick since it is a lot faster. Took 3 seconds off in as many days, from my 50 yard sprint time. So, I do spend a lot of time on my side kicking.... Only record for OAS was set in 1895, 1:02.5. Freestyle was at 1:01.2.

I think my body is out of line that's why my legs remain underwater. No matter much harder I try to kick I am not able to move forward. Thank you! This video helps. How to make sure your 3 H's are in line?
@justinroy4242
@justinroy4242 Жыл бұрын
Hi! I would encourage trying to focus on your head position, as the body follows the head similarly to the front wheel of a bicycle on the road. Also, sometimes kicking harder isn't always the answer, as noted with some of my pitfalls of kicking toward the middle of this video. Take the noodle for example - we focus on being "light and loose from the hip". Are you pedaling the bike vs. kicking from the hip? Is your body straight? all things to take into fair account!

At around 9:25, the woman is kicking with really good form, but she is much slower than the guy earlier? Is this because of technique or leg strength? Because her technique seems really good.
@SigmaSwimming
@SigmaSwimming 5 ай бұрын
The biggest reason is leg strength yes. Justin swam competitively for over a decade, so he has logged in the hours.

Keep your head down low , I think
@SigmaSwimming
@SigmaSwimming Жыл бұрын
Easiest way is to keep your eyes looking straight down at the bottom of the pool. Where your head goes, the hips will go the opposite way like a seesaw. However, that doesn't always do the trick if someone has legs prone to sinking. In which case, make sure your kick is evenly kicking up and down. We see many people kick harder one way or the other. In your case, you may be kicking down harder than you're kicking up. Let us know how it goes and if you have any more questions!

@@SigmaSwimming but in the video shown how are they able to keep the head outside the water and yet their hips are on the surface of the water...when i do the same my hips sink and then kicking gets harder
@SigmaSwimming
@SigmaSwimming Жыл бұрын
@sushi603 It takes years of development. More specifically neck flexibility, core strength, and a powerful kick to keep his hips up while his head stays out of the water. For beginners, we always recommend keeping the head down. If Justin was trying to sprint, he would absolutely keep his head down except to breathe. But being a former NCAA Division I swimmer, Justin is able to casually kick with his head up because of the many years of development in the water.
