Don’t feel bad, I’m 64 years old and have been into electronics for +50 years and I still get ahead of my self. I try to remember a lesson from the Cleveland Institute of Electronics from back in the 80s about Humility and Confidence and the pit falls trying to prove yourself right. Bye the way if you get to the point that you stop making mistakes, its most likely due to death. Keep the videos coming I have learned much from you and thank you for it.

I've been a electronics technician since 1969 & an engineer w/BSEE 1973. Even now I'm still learning & I've made mistakes as the one you did. In that I've seen certain problems over & over that required the parts replacement, that's when you get lazy then replace the common faulty part only to find out it was a fault somewhere else. It happens.

Your troubleshooting skills are excellent. Most people do not appreciate what logical systematic troubleshooting looks like. Like you I went to a private trade school like ITT and received an awesome education. I took the next step and took the CET exam from ISCET back in 1990 when they were still around. It verified to me that what I learned was valid. Watching you on this video reminded me of my own learning curve back in the day of crt tv, vcrs, band amplifiers etc. Now retired I take on occasional repairs as a favor. Keep up the great work!

Great video Paul, you have saved others from making the same easy to make mistake. Personally I like it when KZbinrs show when things don't always go correct. People will learn more from this video than a 'how to' video as you explained your thought process. If you replace the logic board in Part 3, it would be great if you could get some measurements between the new logic board and faulty one to see if you can pinpoint the faulty component. Also what is that tube of white glue that you used to stick the transistors to the heat sink....is it thermal paste? Big thumbs up from me :-)

Make a serial connector and see what the processor on the TV is whingeing about. TCon not communicating can also cause this. Check the fuse and the generated 3v3 on the TCon. Also there is that problem with the older 47uf tantalum caps on some Sami main boards. Finally, the eeprom for settings might also be cactus (usually hard to find which one some of the boards hold up to 6 of them). Try some heat on it, if it boots while the eeprom is warmed (or chilled), replace it.

But hey, mistakes are okay, didn’t hurt anything, & allows other ppl to learn. If no mistakes are made....learning could become boring at gimes😉😅. Still a great vid, & enjoy you trying to fix/fix old TVs 👍🏻 Cheers🤣 Adding this for ppl new to repairs. First, test all parts you receive, BEFORE, start using to replace on boards etc... Secondly, Please make sure the Power Board (capacitors, resistors, transformers) etc....”EVERYTHING” on the board is powered down/off, cuz getting hit w/ electricity is sure not fun...it sucks

Hi Paul! I am really enjoying learning from your Video's! I was wondering if you could give me any tips on this Samsung set problem. I have a 2009 LN46B650T1FUZA set that works great, but all of sudden the screen goes Black. The Audio is still playing. So i figure it is a component that is heating up and dropping out. I turn it off and let it cool for 15-30 min and then turn it back on and it works great again. Then about 30 minutes later it goes Black again! Have you seen this problem before and what causes it? Any help you an share will be great appreciated! Thank You, and keep on making your great Videos!

Is power connector on main logic board just bad? As that can be replaced. Is there any test points on main board for that connector to see? Could also try tracing the “short to ground/or no power issue” on main board before spend the money & replace entire board..... Would be a cool vid to see too, especially, if you’re able to find cause & repair w/o spending the money for a main logic board. Thx again, cheers 👍🏻

Measuring the voltage without load is not enough test to say that the power supply is ok. I would measure the 5V connection of the logic board, if there is a short circuit (0.6 ohms for example). Important! The logic board must not have any connection to the power supply. If there is no short circuit the power supply still has a bug! Sorry for my bad english!

I turn it on and it resets itself over and over, especially when introduced to load, IE: opening the home menu, etc. I already have the mainboard and T-con board replaced about a year ago. Do you think this is caused by a faulty power board?

Hi so I plug my TV in and it comes on then shortly after turns off with a pop. I do not want to order the wrong part so do you think it's the main logic board or power board?
@attainteddragon5 жыл бұрын
thanks for posting my comment (though no mention). :( only samsung LCD power supplies have the pull up resistors. though since your stby 5v was the issue, you would still see it by disconnecting it from the main. you probably don't have an eeprom issue, as you have an issue as it is switching, so a transistor, ic or cap is probably pulling it to ground. you should also disconnect the t-con and try to power up. most likely not an issue, but always confirm if it is or not. i'll see you over at badcaps if you get stuck. :D

@TampaTec If a Power Supply's 18-pin Power Wafer is giving higher voltage readings than the Technical Service Manual shows ... (Standby normal voltage is 3.5V, showing 7V. A couple of the 24V pins are showing ~55V once the power button is pressed) ... would this indicate that the Power Supply should be replaced? Standby light is not lighting up upon plugin. Audible clicks are heard after pressing the power button, and the main board light turns on, but no image is seen. It's an OLED TV, so there is no backlight. The TV has been able to turn on properly, very rarely. Most of the time, there is no light or ability to turn on. This is my first attempt at repairing any kind of appliance, so any input would be appreciated.

Your videos have helped me a lot - thanks. Can an ESR meter like MESR100 V2 be used to find which small surface mount capacitor is causing a problem on an iphone logic board. Great Video👍, Can bad LED lights prevent your TV from starting up.
@TampaTec3 жыл бұрын
Yes, bad led strips symptoms are no power, flash on screen followed by TV shutdown or TV turns off by itself after awhile. Defective LCD TVs before 2010 usually was bad capacitors, LED TVs after 2010 usually bad LED strips. Hope that helps.

I still think you were right in your assessment that the power supply card was knocked out. Just because you check it when it's not connected and gives you five volts does not mean it's OK. Because the capacitor may have been knocked out and only under load can you notice it (when the power supply is connected to the logic board)

I have the same TV I'm pretty sure, LN46C630K1FXZA SQ05. No backlight. I get a standby light, and shows images (and sound) on the screen with the flashlight test. I can't find any videos specific for this model to test the power supply. Watching this though, I did unplug the PS from the MB. No backlights... Are you supposed to turn it on? Or will the backlights just go on as soon as the PS has power and the MB is disconnected? Pretty lost, looks to be a nice TV, I'd hate to scrap it. Love your channel BTW, no shame in a few failures in R & D. I figured out electronics growing up next a thrift store as a kid in the 80s and picking receivers etc. out their dumpster and fixing them. Unfortunately this testing procedure won’t work on “one board” TVs like the LG 43LH5000 I just fixed. It got taken out by a power surge during a storm. All it has is a combination power supply/main board and the T-con board. Fuses good and no obvious damage on the board. Very difficult to test due to the board design. Would be be nice if you do another video about the main logic board and find where is the componente that make the voltage drop down in the power supply board.
