What a beautiful dog! Wire Foxes are wonderful friends and hilarious little jokers. They’re a handful but I wouldn’t trade mine for the world.

I got my first Wire Fox Terrier in 1997 and fell in love with the breed. While I think my dogs are cute as the dickens, Skipper is just a super handsome boy. I just love seeing him. Also you are so right about clipping. My first WFT the groomer just clipped him and the nice black saddle turned to gray and the entire coat change to a soft curly coat that would shed and matt very easily. So absolutely, if you are going to get a WFT understand that you need to spend the time, which for me I love. Also an undercoat rake is a nice easy fast way to remove the fuzzies between groomings.

You are partially stripping him. To strip wires you need a stripping blade which literally pulls the undercoat out. Show dogs are stripped almost down to skin to allow the wire coat to be primary fur. The advantages to stripping is it’s better for their skin and coat colors are much more vivid. Disadvantages are it’s very time consuming and is a little uncomfortable for dog and wires don’t have time so they aren’t real cooperative. I’ve clipped mine since I didn’t have the skill or patience and they tolerated it. Except one of my males who looked liked Skippers twin. He hated being groomed and would try and bite the comb or scissor and pretend to bite the groomer to get them to stop. We went through many groomers until we found one who figured out he was bluffing. They still shed a tiny bit after stripping because they will always grow that undercoat. They shed about the same as other no shedding dogs like poodles. Your dogs coat is beautiful and the partial strip your doing looks great. And best if all it’s free. I paid 95.00 dollars a month for my last precious girl who passed on July 5. She would have tolerated stripping because she was so sweet. But it was easier to have her bathed clipped and groomed by a pro and she felt like it was a spa day. For the last year we had a mobile groomer come to us. Her previous groomer refused to groom her after 5 years because she was old. I’ve boycotted petco since.
