Hi Joel - First a major win for us based on your videos. I have two 15 lb young dogs who are very reactive and beyond incurable about people coming into the house, till yesterday. Based on your videos, I tried something new. A plumber came to our house, a stranger to them and us (not that they are fine with people they know). I let them bark at the window. Then told them 'enough' and to go upstairs and closed the door. More barking behind the door, and I said 'enough' and slapped the door, after which they were quiet. The plumber went back outside to get something. I let the dogs back into the room, now that they were calm. I went outside and made sure they could see me elbow bump the plumber. He then came in the house and this time they milled around like he wasn't even there. He brought in heavy machinery, went up and down to the basement and they literally paid no attention to him. I was completely gobsmacked. Words can not describe how grateful I am for this sea change in their behavior. However, I have not cracked the code on walking my two dogs together. They do ok separately but with a lot of attention and correction. And other than their reactivity problem, if I walk them on the same side, they are very likely to escalate quickly and then go after each other. So I never walk them on the same side. If you can ever do a video on two dogs that go at each other as part of their reactivity, that would be great. Thank you again. Your videos are brilliant. If I lived on the West Coast I'd bring my dogs in for a session.

I have a 2.5 year old lab and 13 month old GSD mix. They always have a 10-15 minute over excitement into the walk and eventually calm down and walk relatively well together afterwards. I've been going wrong in going straight out instead of gaining control and attention inside the house! This will help immensely thank you

I wonder if that could be part of why shes kind of nervous. this was helpful. i didnt exactly learn anything except just confirmed im doing what i should be doing with my pitbull and siberian husky. they both pull. My pitbull is 80lbs so she can pull me right over by herself nevermind my 50lb husky pulling with her lol. At least my pitbull will stop and sit when i tell her to though, my husky REFUSES to do anything i say unless i make him do it after i say it 100 times. even though my pitbull is heavier and more barkier, i focus more on my husky and constantly make sure i have a secured hold on his leash. god forbid if he gets loose. ive chased him around the neighborhood so many times. it takes a whole day to get him back home.

Watching from the UK. I now have a 16 week Cavapoo with a 2.5 year old Shitzu. The Shitzu has always been a slow walker - certainly never excited about going for a walk. Am I being over ambitious trying to walk the two together given the age of the puppy? Currently walking both individually. The puppy walks very well alone. I have a Husky and an Anatolian Shepherd mix. They will both sit at the door one, but the minute the door opens, they both bolt. They are at the end of the leash before I get the door fully opened. For me, taking them one at a time wouldn’t work as they are not crated. What would be the best way to correct the bolting?
@j.munday79133 жыл бұрын
Baby steps. I'd start with practicing opening the door while they sit (leashes on), and if they move just close the door again. When they sit and wait for you after the door is open, then start working on getting out the door. You know they'll bolt, so be prepared with the correction he showed in the video. When they start behaving then you can start walking. Basically they need to learn each step in depth. You might to go through each of these steps for weeks until they get the hang of it depending on their age, but in the long run it'll be far safer for you and them. :) Good luck!

Great tips! I have 2 dogs who are brothers and become super competitive by attacking each other on leash when they see other dogs (jumping, barking and snapping at each other); but they don't attack the other dog. Off leash they are excited but just want to meet and play - they race each other to get to the dog. We go to group lessons every week and can behave fine 'at school' where none of this excitement is displayed. How can I control them on the walk to stop them doing this? All tips are extremely welcome! Thank you.

you need to do this with more dogs. ten dogs. one per finger. and these are all prop dogs they're too well behaved, probably previously trained somewhere else using positive reinforcement only. you need to use real dogs, 10 aggressive dogs that might kill each other. put them on harnesses and be more exciting / give more treats because you are being too mean
