The 43% figure doesn't sound very convincing. First of all, how would you even define a habit in that context? The closer we get to the biochemistry, the more of our behavior is controlled by our subconscious, practically all of it. But, they're still habits, which I guess wouldn't count here because then 43% doesn't make much sense. The point I'm making is when you have such a big range of possibilities then it's impossible to really give a useful metric, so whatever the author meant it would've immediately made me skeptical. Then there's the 66 days, which is also 3 times longer than the common "20 days to establish a habit", though I don't know where the latter figure came from. As for habits, the biggest thing for me has been realizing that you *really* have to start small (or at least I do). I have lots of ambitious goals and plans and the initial motivation will keep me going for a bit despite that it's a big change in behavior, but once that initial rush fades off, I'm left with an unestablished habit that I'm now practically working against myself to maintain. Whereas when starting small, you really build up the foundation for the new routine and it sticks much, much easier. I think it was James Clear who said to build [habits] before trying to optimize, and I try to stick to that now.

BJ Foggs work is not the same as James Clear’s Atomic Habits. Fogg’s work and his behavior model (B = MAP) refutes much of Clear’s book.

I haven't read Atomic Habits, but I read and really liked Tiny Habits from BJ Foggs. Can you share how BJ Foggs refutes Atomic Habits?
@Douglas_Gillette
@Douglas_Gillette Ай бұрын
@@Gigusx Repetition causes habits he refutes. Also what a habit even is. Fogg has shown habits (automatic behaviors) only happen at a reflex level. You can’t build a habit to go to the gym but you can build a happy to bend over and put on your workout shoes.
