Isn't it strange that we can't drop colours from creative cloud library the same way we do it from the swatch panel? It took me some time to figure out what I was doing isn't possible, even though it's the same thing.

Can you do gradual transparency on gradients? For example both your points are black, but you want one of the points to be at 50% opacity so there's a smooth transition from being able to see content behind the top part of the gradient, till it's just a solid black.

Thank you for this video it's very clear and helpful :) I created a shape using a number of different shapes (circle, square and pentagon) to make a curved arrow sort of shape and then grouped them - I managed to get a simple gradient to apply to all of them but when I tried changing the colour it only changed the colour of each individual shape. Is there a way of setting the gradient colours to all?

Sorry, when you say contour, which part of the text are you referring to, the outline/stroke? :)

Both solid swatches and gradients can be applied to the text's Stroke/Outline. Just make sure that the Stroke/Outline is selected at the bottom of the toolbar on the left, and then select the swatch/gradient. Have I understood correctly, and does this help? :)

hi! I'm having trouble, for some reason whenever I add the swatches it's switching to a gradient stroke, and now even if I delete the shape to start over, it automatically fills with gradient. HELP!! How do I 1) restore the settings and 2) add the color swatches. Bonus question 3) how do I add additional swatches to my color pallet? Thank you!!!

I've been using Adobe products basically since the company began - Illustrator 1 and I have to say it is nearly impossible to believe they have any actual graphic artists on their staff because they continually come up with bone head maneuvers like the InDesign gradient tool. The gradients work perfectly and quite easily in Illustrator - yet it's a total clusterfuck in InDesign. Why? And when you go a step further - the big reason/selling point for InDesign (and changing every keyboard command in Illustrator - thereby degrading every long time user's skill set back down to beginner's status)... was because all their programs would "work the same". Now that they own the graphics market completely (thanks to Quark finally saying "uncle" and trying to emulate InDesign) - you can bet the house Adobe's software will get even less consumer friendly and their staff even less customer friendly (if that's even possible).

Thanks alot for this video. Currently I'm trying to get 2 green colours to fade into eachother, but in the centre of these colours there's this gray-ish ugly colour, which doesn't happen to be in photoshop or illustrator when mixing these exact same colours. Is this due to the CMYK values? And how to solve this so I can get a smooth and beautiful gradient.

First of all, this doesn't work for me. The diamond in the middle acts like a color despite no color bucket below. I have dark blue going to black and it's not a smooth transition, it goes blue to gray to black. I follow steps exactly, but i cannot get two colors to transition as above. I've used a ton of apps where I make gradients (Photoshop, Illustrator, Affinity app suite, Pixelmator, Figma, Sketch, even Webflow, etc) and I have never seen such a simple thing become such a massive hassle. Why does InDesign not work like any other app?

The lack of consistency between Adobe's "suite" with regards to colour selection and gradients is frankly demented. Having to create a swatch before making a gradient is just dumb and is anathema to the creative process. Let me play around with colours as I work. Illustrator is not much better but why oh why not have ID and AI share the gradient tool? They're both working with vector shapes. Adobe seems obsessed with constantly rolling out new features. They need to refine and mature the ones already there. I think people like you, with a platform, should be calling out Adobe on stuff like this.
