While this is a good attempt at solving the issue, it's completely incorrect. The problem is that on import it set the blend mode to Translucent. This is incorrect. Translucent is for glass and it has issues with rendering order unless you set it to Translucency volume which is very expensive. You want the hair set to Masked and set the shading model to Hair. Then use a dither node between the alpha and the opacity mask pin to make it render more smoothly rather than the default blocky look when you just used masked alone.

I did it and now my UE File is not opening anymore, it crashes when loading. So maybe don't do it then....

Thanks for the solution but just a word of caution, switching to Substrate is irreversible.
