I attempted to play a few years back using one of those guitar hero style but with a real guitar programs. It's great, but you actually learn very little. Once the screen is gone - so is my ability to play!!! So now I'm back and starting with the basics and wanted to learn some riffs to my favorite songs. Immedicably got hung up on, what I thought would be, an easy one: Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth - just the opening riff. I'm not worried about speed, and I knew the riff was simple. But the constant muting was killing me. Great explanation to get me started!

im having/had the same problem. what i believe you’re doing (which is what i was doing), is using the rotation on your shoulder to do the work instead of relaxing/loosening up your arm and focus on really using your wrist.

How much pressure are you putting on the strings as you palm mute ive been practicing palm muting for over a month now and i havent been able to get the right sound.

Just try to touch the strings so you still hear the note as it is, too much pressure and its gonna change pitch

First learn punctuation, then try palm muting. Should get easier.
