It's difficult because the wheel "wants" to counter-steer and one needs to work against that force. Nice video BTW. Especially both wheel and pedals in the same picture.

The idea of becoming accustomed with the weight transfer in a car is a very good one, but the actual scenarios in which to use this maneuver in daily driving are just escaping me. I totally understand it in competitions though , but there you would stay as far as possible from the brake pedal 😊
@Sussex1929 ай бұрын
It depends a bit where you are driving daily! : ) If you have to go on dust roads just to get to town, it is very important to understand it, because if you have to swerve for anything (like an animal on the road) you are basically doing an un-planned pendulum turn, which can easily result in accident if you aren't ready for it. To a degree, the same applies to any road in the wet.

is it possible to do it with ABS or does it require for the wheels to lock up before hand? and secondly, say if you did not oversteer enough the opposite way, would a handbrake turn would counter the issue or not really?
@DirtFish5 жыл бұрын
It's better to do it without ABS because that could interfere with what you're trying to make the car do. We suggest using threshold braking instead of relying on ABS. Once the brakes lock up, ease off of the brakes a little bit until you regain traction. The handbrake most likely wouldn't help much in that situation. The earlier you setup for the turn, the more time you'll have to compensate for anything unexpected and adjust.

I have figured out how to do the pendulum turn, and it does a great job of getting the car around a tight corner, but it seems like it slows the car down too much, and I have almost no speed when exiting the corner. Any idea on how to maintain more speed through the corner?
@frankrizmanic85642 жыл бұрын
Brake later 😂
@frankrizmanic85642 жыл бұрын
Brake later and release brake sooner. The slide itself will slow down the car too. Its just all about practice.
@Align700nitro Жыл бұрын
If the car slowed down too much, consider advancing the timing for your gas pedal cautiously. more speed through the corner comes with wider turn radius.
@texfromro11 ай бұрын
this presentation is a derivation of a maneuver called scandinavian flick... but there you wouldn't touch the brakes once you are committed. So you aim for the inside of the corner, you suddenly lift the foot from the gas to unweight the rear, then you shortly go in the opposite direction to counterbalance the car and then you sharply steer into the corner and once the nose is in the right direction you slam the gas to pull you out.... but you need the right car for this, the balls and total disrespect for that vehicle :)

how do you even brake without using the clutch tho
@faisaldylan50284 жыл бұрын

@DirtFish3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Exiting the corner is a just a little bit different because you don't have the AWD to pull you out of it.

Unfortunately, we don't have FWD cars at the rally school, but the technique is roughly the same, except you need to be more patient and really wait until you've finished turning before getting on the power.
