Took me a couple of videos to get to this one. So foot brake is used normally to reach “entry speed”, but then release foot brake, clutch down, turn, handbrake, release brake + release clutch -> throttle… got it I think.

Major thanks Nate for putting in the time to make this, and just how much it means you'll never know. I'm entered for the rally cross here in August for BigNW and i have a lifted NA 2010 Forester. Obviously im not looking to truely compete, however, i really want to see what its best is and after rebuilding it for the last two years the weakest link is me. I see the principles behind getting through turns like this but for me I'm not sure if my one run is gonna pan well without alot of preplanning so any input is a HUGE help. I know in my Forester Sport mode allows me to shift by hitting the shifter up or down. Would the same practice here apply with it, specifically handbraking into the turn, hit down to first and then power out.. or am i really just out on the edge where no ones gone before

I really have a question about the setup of this STi's center diff. Is this STi modified that the center diff will completely disengage when you lock the rear wheel with hand brake? There is no clear info anywhere talking about what the stock DCCD is doing for a handbrake turn. I read somewhere that someone tried a handbrake turn and almost ruined the center diff.

AWD hooning virgin here…I’ve only augmented rotation for FWD with the handbrake while in gear and RWD with throttle (never owned an AWD). I was wondering if for a hot entry, a standard double clutch blip into first (and fully engaging the gear) before pulling the handbrake would be quicker than the technique shown because it allows for getting on the power sooner and hypothetically braking harder by keeping rpm’s high coming down the gears while braking. I’ve only seen Dirt Fish instructors slipping in the 2-1 shift after locking the rears and keeping the driveline disengaged until rotation is complete. Is this an AWD specific nuance to avoid stalling out by locking the rears with first engaged, or can performance AWD systems tolerate the fronts rotating with the rears locked?
@cjkim1234567 Жыл бұрын
I’m also curious if full lockup is best on loose surfaces while aiming for heavy slip angle while still spinning tire is best on asphalt (either to avoid flat spotting the rears or because it’s potentially quicker)

how do people brake with their left leg? i still cant do it cos my car would just yank me to the front and lose all the speed

Karting drivers are used to break with their left foot because they only have 2 pedals in their karts: brake (left) and throttle (right). It takes some time to get used to do it if you're a normal driver, since the clutch pedal is heavier than the brake pedal, but practice makes perfect.
