Thanks a lot for giving us some explanations about Kansaiben. It's much less cryptic now. There is pretty much always one character that speaks Kansaiben in anything Japanese, and it's always been one of my big issues with understanding a story all by myself. Just knowing the basic rules will help a lot and I am pretty confident you helped many people with the same issue thanks to this video.

After almost 8 hours got a wand :D I must admit though i got carried away by reading magic master for way longer than i should. From good things? - i'm getting used to shizuku being jerk with heavy kansai. - Already learned ton of new words From bad things? - I enjoy the game so much that i have trouble to motivate myself to steadily progress grammar and other boring ways of learning for n2.

I hope you play some Tales of Vesperia in the future like this! I learned English through Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Vesperia is on Switch and it has a very good translation/study script online (that I found through one of the resources you provided in a video). I feel more people should be aware of how good it is. All the dialogues are screen capped and menu/skills are translated and such. Plus there is a lot of voice acting in the game!

i played for an hour just now, as it seemed easier to me than when you first posted this video and i have some practice with kansaiben thanks to kerochan, i would say it hasnt been too hard but im having issues understanding the cutscenes with the antagonist and im relying on english translations for those

I do have an idea to deal with shizuku, get a game script, find out which lines shizuku's are, and have them already translated so when you get to those points you can just read in english what he said.

I recently play a cross platform f2p game called [ Heaven Burns Red ]. It was develop by WFS and Key (Clannad creator). Mixed with Visual novel style of dialogues and RPG battle system. Nice music and great storyline, I would say it is pretty nice and fun game to play and learn Japanese for free.

@@mov4736 Battle system quite unique to me. each character has different role and we may need to swap character to perform better result depend on situation. Storyline mostly about military girls (but they actually a school girl) try to save the world. The downside is, no furigana.

Amazing video, I actually have the game in Japanese and on ds (with the physical book) but the digital copy seems way more accessible and the font is way easier to read :D Also, side not, it's *Bestiary* like "best" not Beastiary like "beast" 🙈

The remastered version is on PS4, Steam and Xbox One. It’s also on Switch although that’s not remastered for some reason

I do notice that the European page doesn't mention Japanese aside from voices, so chances are likely that the same applies for the US version as well. Buuuut, the Steam version supports Japanese text no matter where you buy it.

I switched my games language into Japanese for the steam version of the game and I like how it has furigana and it will make looking up new kanji a lot easier for me :D

Thanks for the kansai ben explanations! Btw one pet peeve, is there any chance for less beginner based explanations? I know that you are trying to make your channel accessible to everyone regardless of level, but listening to explanations of things like これ, それ, 待って, もう一つ, 行く in standard JP (non kansai/dialect stuff) is just a bit "slow". Not any fault of yours, I'm not sure if I'm in the wrong video and there are more advanced videos on the channel (admittedly I haven't watched all the play videos yet, only a couple). It is just that to me (N3-ish), words like that don't really need an explanation and just increases the video's time. It is like trying to learn college algebra but the teacher stops to explain things like how to solve "5X+1 = 6" every few minutes

Hey there! Glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah I have definitely been aware of this flaw of doing the video series this way. Initially it was focusing on vocabulary only and I didnt go through the grammar as much, however I feel grammar really is an essential part of the sentence that people most want to learn about so I changed that flaw of the previous approach. Right now the level of grammar I go more deeper on is influenced by which game it is, as Ni No Kuni is very often recommended to beginners I decided to cover more of the simple grammar a bit (and many people have been appreciative of doing so) However, if you are like yourself and dont want to hear about basic language structure then it could be a negative. One potential solution to this problem that me and a few members of the Game Gengo Discord came up with, could be to make a graded series where we ONLY focus on that particular language (N3) and go extremely quickly through everything else. What that video would be like im not sure, but if you have any suggestions id love to hear them! :D

@@GameGengo hello~ I do agree with grammar being an essential part of language learning. I also agree that ni no kuni is targeted to beginners. This may sound a bit selfish or pretentious, but the way I see it is (just a personal opinion, people are free to do as they wish): If someone isn't upper N4 (both genki books or learnt the equivalent grammar rules from other sources), they shouldn't be eyeing (most) games yet. They would be better off with things like simpler Slice of life/romcom manga. Why? Because in my experience, many games with logs wipe the log between resets. This means you can't see what they said in a scene that I played yesterday. Manga (or books in general for that matter) don't have this problem, one can easily flip/scroll back and revisit a previous page. Beginners don't often have a solid base, so they often tend to revisit pages to check "how did that character phrase it again?", "Wait what? Did I misunderstand the context/situation? Let me check again". Thus, it would be more beneficial (in my opinion) for them to stick to book-style media which Manga is usually the easiest. (In general, Manga is easier than LN which are often easier than real novels and those are easier than real hardcore "dry" books) Anyways, my learning philosophy aside, I think that a graded video series is a fantastic idea. The video could cover something like Nier or Final Fantasy or any of the more accessible games of similar level. (I can't really think of any particular game at the moment) By skipping/skimming over the basic grammar, this means that more content can be placed in the 1 hour-ish time slot. Alternatively, shorter videos (not reels or whatever, just 5-30 minute videos) are also an option, especially with you back to teaching. This would mean more condensed content and less editing (I think). I don't know which type of videos actually perform better on youtube (in terms of views, engagement and whatnot). So, take whatever I said with a grain of salt, after all I'm not trying to hurt your business/channel.

I think the Kansai-ben is a benefit. We need to understand all the major dialects to live in Japan and talk to Japanese people. The cutscenes I just use for free flow fluency listening practice. I don’t bother pausing unless I think I’m missing something vital.

I'm trying to use game2text with ni no kuni and finding it very hard to get any proper result. Has anyone goten it to work? As there seems to be no script online it was my only way of progressing quickly without having to type out each sentence @GameGengo

I never got game2text to really work on a reasonable level at any game. I personally use sharex for ocr. But If you are a beginner, I wouldn't recommend playing a game without a game script available. It's just not fun, at least for me, it wasn't.
