At first I was like "how is this better than wavetable", then they showed the modulation and scale awareness possibilities. Damn. I love how the LFO section almost brings some modular synth-type modulation capabilities.
@shane500310 ай бұрын
It's not. The modulation section is more developed but could simply be added to wavetable and a full on wavetable synthesizer is more diverse. None of the oscillators are as good as a wave table. It's actually worse than that though this whole synth is designed around obfuscating. It's literally like a bunch of marketing terms to make it seem like it's really cool but there's nothing new about this synthesis and all of the oscillators are just variations on a theme of stuff that we can do elsewhere.

Nice tutorial, thank you! ❤👍💯 I especially like that it includes technique to test, disable portions such as OSC A or B as a way of showing both learning and testing portions of Meld given even those relatively "narrow" areas are actually vast. To boot, I like that enabling/disabling areas/sections is repeated as part of the tutorial which is both a great way to learn and show an exploratory iterative approach that does not overwhelm.

Great job with the Meld! I really hope that Tension and Collision gets this kind of mod matrix in the future. So you can go deeper into the sound design of these two devices. plus it would to be cool too if Resonators and Corpus had Scale Mode as an option (especielly Resonators). somethings I really just want the Resonators to follow a midi track with a melody and having the Resonators on drums, for example.

Now if only they’d make it stop giving you bizarre initial warp markers starting at the 2nd 128th note of a bar in 97.3 bpm, even when your audio clip clearly has the correct BPM in the file name and works just fine from 0:00. Also their file find and replace is still atrocious after 12 versions. 😓

my face when you turned on use current scale and started messing with the detune. fkn wow
@shane500310 ай бұрын
And the next comment down is my case in point. It was effective. Why were you like wow? The dual oscillator setup is literally meant for the second oscillator to be able to more precisely detune against the first without having to use oscillator 2. Turning on the current scale doesn't do something magical it just quantizes that knob and it's no longer even a detune it's just a second oscillator that is offset by that number of scale degrees base 0. We've always been able to do that just make an instrument group stick pitch -> scale In front of the second chain and you get the same effect without sacrificing the actual function of the detune knob. Plus you can do that with any synthesizer. By the way the manuals written wrong and the basic shapes oscillator tone knob doesn't do pulse width modulation it's doing simple fm. An operator the oscillator effects are uniform across all the wave tables. This is decidedly more intuitive and actually versatile. they have done here is create the illusion of a bunch of cool **** by actually limiting which oscillator transformations you can do and giving a macro to it. You end up with a bunch of oscillators that have a particular modulation associated with them but not because that manipulation really makes any sense related to that oscillator it's just they chose to group it with that one to make it seem like there was a lot more.
