I like your attitude. Years ago, I went to take piano lessons, and one of the first things the instructor said was, I'll teach you to play something simply because you will never be a concert pianist which I thought started with a negative tone. I fired his a$$.

Good for you! I'm a septugenarian too. I've been working on the Beatles and the Eagles music for the past year or so. I can play one or two well enough to play for my children, but no one would ask me to play in their band at this point! Never give up is my motto!

Another thought...One of the fun things I've been trying to do is play the fun guitar riffs in the pop music of our day...Hotel California, Day Tripper, etc. It's so much fun!

I bought a full sized semi weighted keyboard at Christmas and am learning to play it as well as read music. I practice scales and arpeggios most days and then either work on a piece or improvise around chords. Enjoying the instrument immensely though I get frustrated at times as I want to run before I can walk! Your advice and lessons are a great help.

Tonight, I came across your site. Hmm I thought ‘another one of “those channels” that promise everything and deliver nothing.’ BOY WAS I WRONG??! As you were explaining about simple chords I thought…I can do that, I know those chords! I stopped your video half way through and have just spent a couple of hours immersed in Let it Be. The first time in my entire life that a. I have ever played non classical and the first time I have been b. Able to sing along with a song I’m playing. (I got to grade three 50+ years ago and can only play the set pieces I was taught then…and very badly). Also c. Was able to play an entire song through and learn it. I’m delighted. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Tonight not only did I play this song, and sing it, but I was able to read the simple chords that went with it…instead of trying to speed sight read, be unable to do so and give up…it was an utter “aha” moment. I immediately got out my music books and have since played Bridge over troubled water on the piano…and then thought hang on…I’ll try on my guitar too… simple chords. First time ever!! My guitar too! For some reason, and I don’t know how it all clicked this evening…after a lifetime of utter confusion and struggle. I cannot thank you enough. ❤❤❤

Came back to update you, since you opened the door with the magic key, and I now understand it - whatever comprehension block I had has gone. I’ve been playing every piece of music I can get my hands on. My piano has stood neglected for years, tuned but not played. Since I watched your video I’ve been in there four hours a day. I’ve been playing every level (up to Grade 5). Every genre. I’ve even been picking up my old classical music books. I’ve played Fur Elise, Moonlight Sonata, Clair de Lune, Prelude in E Minor, as if I have always played them, just opening every book of music that I have and playing. I even attempted The Entertainer…(mixed results! But I tried! Day one of starting to play it!) Turning pages from one music piece to another, playing them. It’s like magic!! I’ve played Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Schubert, Mozart and others up to grade 5. (Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky are still out of my reach…at the moment!). Classical because I’m comfortable with it. I’ve ordered more music books, easy piano, all genres, to expand my repertoire as I learn again. Yesterday I played Christmas Carols for the first time in my life. I’ve always wanted to sing around the piano at Christmas. I have plenty of time to practise for this year. I can’t wait! Hand eye coordination is a bit slow, but I’ve a lot of time to catch up on. I’ve been playing everything! In doing so and reading the music, just understanding the chords, the chord progressions and be able to predict the next, adding arpeggios, playing different tempos, improvising too. I’ve even been sight reading new pieces, both classical and popular. Sure, some mistakes, but I just play them slower and over and over until I get it right. The other day I said to myself…”Look at you. Yesterday you hadn’t played for years, you couldn’t play it, couldn’t play anything but your memorised school pieces, and now look at you, you are sight reading it, and playing it!! Go you!!” My family are absolutely amazed (as am I). It’s as though you have released the pianist in me. One I never believed was there. Thank you so very very much. Am going to watch every video you have done. As they say, it’s about the teacher and finding one that can teach you. You have been the only music teacher that has actually reached me. Thank you so much again for sharing your knowledge and giving me “the gift of music.” I could cry I’m so happy.

Yip... At 61 I decided that I wanted to play the piano again, I did up to Grade 2 as a child. Got myself a weighted electronic piano, watched a couple of KZbin videos, started practicing daily... and then didn't anymore. Am definitely going to follow your training program, I think that outside guidance will help with direction that I just can't give myself

I m 66years of age, male, having learnt myself to play keyboard(without music theory) ofcourse learnt the wrong way. I am dislectic in note reading. Managing my way through using chords and memory of the song line. I wish it was the other way around, first lessons as a youngster and than developing greater skills. But hey, even now I still love it even though I am struggling with it. Thanks for your work on KZbin. Like it very much. 😊Greetings from the Netherlands

Sounds great! However, being retired on a fixed income makes money a little short. It seems to get into her program, you have to be on a 45-minute call to talk to her or her staff. That tells me her program, while probably very good, is also much too expensive for me. There's no sense calling her as I know I can't afford it. It's not that it cost too much, it's that I can't afford it.
