Voice: So here's the basics of sanding and filling scratches in plastic bumpers. First, we've got to clean the bumper. I like to use glass cleaner first...[robert cleans with glass cleaner], then I wipe with a towel wettened with wax and grease remover and follow up with a dry towel [robert wipes wet..then dry].
Now we've got scuff everywhere paint might possibly land to ensure it's going to stick and create a durable repair. As a general rule, you should scuff 2 feet in every direction from the damage [robert scuffs 2 feet in every direction.
First, try to sand them out completely with your D/A sander and 80 grit sandpaper.

Voice: I can feel that the lighter scratches are out completely, but the deeper scratches remain because I can pick at them with my fingernail. So I'm going to have to fill these low spots with filler.

Voice: Lay out a dab of filler and an even smaller dab of hardener. You want to mix about 10 parts filler to 1 part hardener. Mix it up with your bondo spreader until it's all one color--in this case pink because of our red filler.

And we'll just spread it lightly over these deep cuts and give it about 10 minutes to harden.

Wrap 220 grit sandpaper around a foam block and sand out the filler. You might have to pause and clean up your sandpaper with compressed air ocassionally.

A trick to help cure the bondo before sanding is to wipe it with lacquer thinner. It will remove oils that come to the top and usually plug the sand paper. This can be done with fiberglass resin as well. Never use cardboard for mixing on. Use glass or get a metal tray or something that does not release particles of itself into the bondo when mixing.

Never use bondo on plastic bumpers or 80 grit sand paper folks!!🤣🤣💯....use a plastic bumper adhesive or a bumper patch kit!!....that bumper will be back in 2 weeks after the sun hits it!..and it all shrinks and cracks off!!💯

Erin Averyt plastic weld using a soldering iron and a small amount of the plastic from the bumper that is from the back side where it can never be seen

hey, I was working on my bumper and on one area I went through the factory primer and got to the actual fiberglass. is that still repairable or is it trashed?

evlution Just apply primer over the fiberglass. Wait 30 min. Wetsand 600. Apply base. Aply clear.

No card board for mixing filler! Adhesion promoter. Start sanding higher than 80, maybe 150. Press firmly with the filler to fill in the scratches, lightly applying it doesn't work.

Plastic doesn't scuff like metal...no need to use 80 grit ...120 is rough enough

Never use body filler on plastic bumper use easy sand its a 2 part product thats meant for plastic repair and you didnt use adhesion promoter before applying the filler

Among other things, you REALLY don't want to sit on that raised "crease" portion like you do with that orbital sander, that will cut it into a severely unwanted shape. I always did those "raised wrinkles" with paper in hand, gingerly. Same goes for finishing the final paint there. Just finish up to them (not over them) with the buffer and final them in by hand, or you will thin or go thru the paint in a heartbeat. And PLEASE tell me that is NOT standard metal body filler...one good push and it will crack if it is of ANY thickness, practically...the thicker the worse. A friend of mine had a beautiful Corvette once that he had painted (at a supposedly high end shop) and they rounded of every corner like that so badly it just made the car look terrible...he was pissed. I recommend watching this to see how NOT to do it, then go watch a professional to see HOW do it (3M has one that's OK, a good body shop guy's version will usually be better). When you've done tens to hundreds of these things, you tend to get really good at it, if you have any brains and you give a crap. If you don't you won't be there long.

Absolutely clueless. You must use filler for plastics that is flexible. The first bit of temperature change and the filler is going to start falling off and lifting in chunks
