Hi, great series of videos, am learning a lot. Quick question, that I hope I explain. In your videos, when you do an action, such as move and copy, once you have clicked to complete the move, your pointer seems ready to do something else, when I click to complete a move for example, or a push/pull, my pointer stays selected to the same mode so will keep moving / pushing that component, until I select another action. Is there setting to turn this off, or is there something I'm missing? Thanks

thank you for your video! I have a question regarding alignment. When I draw reference axes my object sticks only to one axis, it isn't possible for example to put it in the intersection of 2 axes so the position of my objects isnt precise.

The method of use with the divide tool seems inaccurate. If you want the in between spacings to actually be the same measurement needs to be from centre to centre of the outmost objects, in this case the shelf side support and horizontal shelves. Also, if you are building something like shelf #2, the top should span over top of the side supports as the on in design will be a lot weaker.

This has been quite helpful for learning Sketchup. For the shelf legs, I ended up practising with rectangle legs and circular ones until I had a better understanding of what you showed. The rectangle ones I painted each of the long faces a different colour so I could get a sense of orientation (on the circular ones I added a radius line to the leg bottom). That way, when skewing, copy-moving and rotating, I could better see how one was mirrored with respect to another. I rotated the second leg 90 degrees, then duplicated the pair and mirrored them again. Once all four legs were in place and facing the correct orientation, it was super easy to pull the ends into a slope and, because they're all related components, the change propagated across all four legs. Once I got the hang of it, I found that easier than trying to make a sloped leg then rotate a duplicate into the same relative orientation. Thanks for the very useful lessons!

Hello, obviously this is now a bit older, and so am I. I have a bit of trouble following your super fast rythm in these tutorials. I have been using Sketchup for a while now, and am always confused with certain reactions - you have enlightened me quite a bit, but it's hard to remember everything. I will re-watch the first 3 again now! And thanks anyway, great content.

Total noob to SketchUp, but I've used multiple other drafting programs over nearly 30 years, including several versions of AutoCAD. Is there no mirror-image function?? Very useful for the skewed legs!

correct me if im wrong but as is the first shelf unit would topple over without bracing in the back. this reminds me of the ikea ivar shelf system. it uses an "x" metal for bracing in the back

Hard to tell - usually shelves like this have some kind of anchor to the wall to prevent this

Thank you for your response and my question is can you dedicate a video from this series to the dynamic scaling component Suppose a lower kitchen cabinet can be scaled in width and length You made a great video for that adjustable shelf dynamic component but u was made it with custom width. All good but this cannot be applied to the scaling tool What im talk about her we use that behavior scale tool when we made the dynamic component > scale along red I hope u gat my idea Thanks

The first rectangle, right at the start, you enter 2ʻ,8ʻ and get the 2x8 rectangle. When I do that nothing happens. But when I input 24,96 it goes to the 2x8ft size. Is there a place where can change the input settings? Using sketchup free. Thanks

type 2',8' for feet it needs the single quote mark. it assumes inches if using imperial fyi ' single quote means feet while " double quote means inches

Hi! How do you snap the objects exactly to the guidelines (or any existing objects)? Whenever I move anything, they're always off by an inch or two... and thank you for the videos!

Sounds like you need to be more precise with your base point with the move tool

I'm a newb, so there may be a better explanation, but it may help to think that the object you are moving doesn't snap to the destination. It's the curser that snaps. ex. if you want the bottom corner of a shelf to end up on the bottom corner of the side, you need to click your cursor on the bottom corner of what you are moving, then drag THAT corner to the destination.

I've tried and tried but when making the shelves I can't get the line to turn red nor can I tell what you're doing when you switch to rectangle tool. The shelf is always wonky.
