OMG Rocky! I finished lesson #11 yesterday and today I listened to someone on KZbin that have not been able to understand (maybe I'd pick up a word or two). But today, I understood with no problem. I was amazed. Muchas Gracias!

Fast forward to about 9:40 where he finally gets to the point. Basically, find a simple KZbin video that has both English and Spanish subtitles, then keep watching it over and over until you know it by heart. Once you know it by heart, increase the speed of the video a little at a time, continue doing this and you'll be able to understand faster Spanish speaking. Can KZbinrs just get to the point? I understand you all want to make videos that are longer, but don't take something that could be explained in like 3 minutes and string it out for 15.

I think it has to do with shorter videos not being monetized or sth. I understand it. But they should know if they don't really have something to say for all those minutes, they will in fact LOSE viewers, not gain viewing time. I recommend to you the firefox addon "sponsorblock", a community based tool that lets you jump to the highlights easily and also skip sponsor etc.

Good tips. Currently my written comprehension of Spanish far outstrips my oral comprehension. When I have to think on the go, that's where I mess up. I'm trying to learn how to get better at listening comprehension. I basically need more convo practice and to listen more to regular dialogues. One thing I've experimented with is listening to vlogs here on KZbin, specifically from folks in the Carribean and Colombia (those are among my "target accents" for Spanish right now), but I'm still going to master the standard dialect before I go too heavy in any regional dialects. I'm actually going to try this method now. ¡Feliz Sábado profesor!

Exactly, and this does more negative than positive. It's okay if you can't understand it, don't worry about it. You will get there. I do the real life version of this dwlllll (lol) I work with a Cuban woman in Jamaica, right? And I've been learning Spanish for a bit now, less than five years, and so long story short I asked her how old she thought a co-worker of ours was. Heh! I could've sworn she said either just one or two words but sir the sentence was él es como de mi edad and she said nothing more than él eh como 'e mi eda' So remember that last thing you said about replaying a video, I made her replay that one sentence lol. One time fast...two times, three, and still not understanding, but when I get slow version and I finally understand I let her go two times with that 1000 mph Cuban speech. I don't feel a way still bc the same thing happens to her when I speak English or patwa 🇯🇲 :p

It's the way they speak the language. It's much easier to understand someone from Spain. Than someone from Latin Caribbean or Mexico, and that includes south America. And the Dominican Republic is really difficult because it's so guttural. My wife is from there, and its close to Ebonics. So I've insisted to my son that he learned Spanish speaking from teachers in Spain. I believe you must speak classically, and the street language, it just comes naturally.
@SpeakSpanishFaster4 жыл бұрын
Interesting observation, however I don't think we can throw ALL Spanish in a box of "ebonics." It may seem like it's easier to understand someone from Spain because usually that's where teachers come from and they talk clearly. But watch a comic from Spain or talk to a local Spaniard and I'm sure it would be just as, if not more difficult, to understand. Also, if you take someone that's been around Latin American, Caribbean, Or Mexican Spanish, Spain Spanish will seem much more difficult. Another question is, when we say "Spain" Spanish which Spanish are we referring to? Because all throughout Spain they speak differently. In fact, in Southern Spain, they speak very similar to Caribbean Spanish (which is where Caribbean Spanish) originates from. What's classical is very subjective. What's classical to one may not be to others. We can't compare a Spanish teacher from Spain to a local from Latin America and say it's easier to understand the Spanish person. Because if you took a teacher from Latin America that spoke neutral, it would probably be even easier to understand than that Spanish teacher from Spain. I'm all for learning to speak Spanish well and clearly so everyone can understand you but it any country you choose to learn from can help you achieve that.
