YES. It also feels like to me the wands and swords should be switched. I thought it was just something I didn't quite get or it was just me... Something seemed off but I hadn't thought about it a lot until I got the Byzantine Tarot app and was reading the book included on the app. That deck switches the swords and wands. They call the wands staffs and they are the staffs of the court officials. Swords to me are action, forceful, warlike... not something I would associate with the mind. Wands to are more about diplomacy, getting things done in a subversive kind of way by using your head.. brains over brawn.

Hi Hayley M, thanks for watching and for your comment! I am planning a new series of videos soon that are in alignment with the book I’ve been writing for the last six months on the nature of the soul. I’m very excited to be putting the finishing work on the first draft over the next couple weeks and I’ll be sharing a free preview chapter as I update the KZbin channel. If you have specific questions about Tarot that you’d like me to do a video on, let me know and I’ll give it some thought as I’m composing a list of new topics to cover this fall! Thanks again for watching and for your feedback!

Very interesting...I just recently purchased The Chrysalis Tarot by Toney Brooks and it is very different from the RWS or TdM systems. The suits are very different. His court cards have been renamed. He also has the Fool as Merlin and the card is named THE HERO. It has justice at 8 and Strength as 11 which I feel is a better flow of energy. Wands and swords .....I am researching and suits were switched. Thank you for your insight.

To me makes more sense the original concept of the elements with the suits. Fire serves multiple purposes like the wands destructive and creative energy, but air that is connected with thoughts and the mind to me has one direction and that is what swords makes me think of..like pointy arrows I think about this image when I am focused on a thought. I also see that as a wound, thoughts can get you stuck, think about the 10 of swords one of my fav minor arcana. Wands represent to me really the passion and the primordial creativity that the element of fire carries. I don't really know if this makes any sense it's late and I can't sleep so I'm sorry.

Hi Shannon. Excellent video and content on your channel. You mentioned a few books that you have read that have helped you shape your use/view of the tarot. A deeper understanding. Would you be able to share any of the titles that you have found worthwhile? Thank you. David.

david hunter as you know there are many books on Tarot available out there. As a Jungian I tend to lean more towards the roots of symbols rather than divinatory ideas around Tarot. As such these books tend to be across a wide spectrum of sources. I read into the Chariot for example as story that dates to Hellenistic Greece and Plato’s chariot - an allegory about the journey of the soul. In exploration of personality types I’ve studied numerous schools of thought and models of personality, including reading the dense “Personality Types” by Jung. Joseph Campbell is a huge influence for me. His Hero with a thousand faces and the hero’s journey is so profound that it’s themes can be seen in the arc of the Major Arcana, the fool being the hero and the arcana being the story of the journey. You question gives me lots to think about I can see immediately a half-dozen content pieces I can build around it, stay tuned and I’ll share some thoughts for you in the coming week or two

I always mix up the wands and swords because it feels wrong to me to have swords for the mind/intellect. I didnt know it was acceptable to just read them how you feel I thought the elements and suits were part of the structure that can not be changed. An unbreakable rule so to say.

@@Starsofneon the wands and swords debate goes back more than a century. Some say, that in the tradition of medieval Alchemy, that they were reversed to obscure or confuse the uninitiated. The strength and justice cards of the Margot arcana are also debated like this. Thanks for your comment!

@@ShannonBoschy thanks for the reply! im just looking to make sense of Tarots but via some knowledge that I have already come into contact with, in this case Jung's. I find Tarots interesting but have not seriously looked into them, which I am starting to do so. I would have loved seeing more of your thoughts on the two subjects, as I feel a certain connection to your understanding (though ofc it could change later on, but let me focus on this moment lol). Do you have certain things you can point me towards? (either youtube, pdf, names, etc) I see you have a playlist, I will look into that as well.

khalil omar the best way to learn tarot and symbolic sets like it (like Astrology, Numerology, Runes, Cabala etc) is to keep them in your mind. Be fiercely curious while remembering to keep your own power. Too many people surrender their power to their objects of study. Tarot is not a set of answers; its a contemplative process that will lead you to find answers in yourself. This was Jung’s thing. He studied ancient alchemy and hermetic philosophy, astrology, mediumship and tarot any many of the schools of what we call the occult. When you can see the patterns in these, and you are able to remain objective in your understanding, you will see what Jung saw. That is far better than any interpretation that I could share with you; but send me an e-mail to shannon@chasingquicksilver.com and I will release to you whatever Tarot content I have,
